2 People are doing the project, I am not saying which 2, and we will post the photos of both sets after Christmas. I am going to love them and will treasure them, since they are being made with such kindness Amber OK, I wanted to make a cab, well 2 of them, like one shape cut in half with one for me and one for Tony, since I am still new at this, I realized, that duh, I don't have the saw to cut a shape in half, and he would know. Can it be done? I will send the material I would like cut, and include several slabs and pieces of rough to whomever would want to undertake the project. I don't want a heart shape, any freeform or preform that you choose would be fine, I just want something that would be interlocking. I will attach the bales after completion. Let me know if any of you talented folks are up to the challenge, and want a box of some nice slabs in return. I would like it completed for a Christmas present. I think Tony would like the fact that one of his buddies on the site made it for us. I will let my 8 year old son decide who the winner is, based upon his review of your previously posted cabs. Since you are all so talented it would be hard for me to decide! Amber

Killer sounding project Amber. I've thought of requesting the same thing (I'm not a cabber, so can't help sorry) for my wife and I. But neither one of us really wears jewelry other than our wedding band.

Amber,
Not to discourage a competition but there are ways to do what you want, without a saw. I almost never "cut" my slabs. I like the idea that the rock is breaking where it wants to. I choose a slab and then lightly tap it with my trusty wrench until it breaks into a couple of pieces. This would give you two pieces in which to cab. They would be from the same slab, have the same pattern, and can be cabbed into any shapes you want.
As for the interlocking idea, any two pieces of material that truly "interlock" will be very hard to cab. Imagine the corners and such that you couldnt get to with a cabber. You could maybe cab two geometric pieces with angles that fit together side by side. And since they would both have the same pattern, they would look like they "belong together" which would be fitting for your purpose.
Tony would like something made by a forum friend but I think that having something made 100% by you will be not only a surprise but a very meaningful gift.
Just a thought......

Shannon: I see your point, but so far 2 people have come up with some interesting ideas. I just made Tony a butterfly wing jasper cab, he said it was the best one I did so far, so I gave it to him.
So many of the people on here are so nice and so talented that I am intrigued to see their final product, and I like the idea of sharing material with them. I am already thinking of special slabs to send along to them.
I will see who else responds in the next day or two.
