LOL! Minnesnowda. I drained the hose yesterday. We're headed for a week with lows in the mid to upper thirties and highs near forty. A little too cold for me to be washing rocks.
I put my vibe in the basement last night and the cats wouldn't go past it to get to the litterbox. Guess it sounded too much like a giant rattlesnake or something...
I wouldn't mind getting rid of the cats, but I don't think my daughter would be too happy about it.

Hey, I truly appreciate your efforts in response to my question. I am only wanting small quantities of polished rocks so the use of only a vibe really won't apply to those who desire large quantities. Knowing that I can only afford a new vibe tumbler at this time does narrow my question. Thanks, Jean

H-R-Cafe,,,
Minnesnowda!! Thats funny!
I hope you can handle CT's share too!!
Jean, I've always wanted to do this so it's no big deal!
Jack, Yes the test rock shows very little change after a full 120 hours. Thats 5 days and 12-1/2 Tablespoons of #220 grit! Not much show for the money!

Several of those rocks look like they're ready to be pulled, but others look like they could go on forever...

Chuck, I WOULD HAVE PULLED A LOT OF THEM OUT AND ESPECIALLY THE SMALLER ONES IF THIS WASN'T A TEST (darn caps lock)
I'll keep it going for a bit more as I think I showed how long it takes to get that rounded look in a vibe.

Yes, I understand entirely. I just meant that while some have progressed nicely, others look like they're never going to get there. In my opinion, that test rock still doesn't have a rounded look.
This thread should really help those who want to buy only one tumbler (a vibe). Now I want to get a Lot-O for smaller loads!!! :-)

Chuck, Looks like it's you and me on this thread!! LOL
I'm going to do another thread on finishing with the LO.
I'll do some small slabs, cabs and just plain old dirty rocks that have been roughed in a rotary.
I didn't change the load yet today as it's too early yet.(5am) They have to run until about 8 or 9am to make a full 24 hrs.

No pressure Tom! :-) You did such a good job with this one that I'm sure the finishing thread will be just as instructive.

This was a great effort. Thanks.
I do get slightly faster results (but similar) with 120g, and I get slightly better results with the Gy-Roc Model A, but even 120g day after day wears the bowl pretty fast.
I mostly do broken slabs and preforms, so the vibes do fine for me.
Thanks again

gemni, Being retired I now have the time to do something like this and I always wanted to do it so others could benefit from it.
Chuck, Dunno if you/ve read the finishing post yet but so far all I proved is that letting a load dry out is a BIG no-no and that my mind goes on hold every afternoon!!!
Deb193,,,,,
Thanks,,, It's not the best presentation but I think it can help folks a bit. The "newbies" have sooooooooooooooo many questions about vibes v rotary so why not share the "wealth"? LOL

Thanks for all the photos. I'm trying to decide if I want a 40lb rotary or my 1st vibe tumbler next. This helps.
