Howdy Folks, Steve Holmes and I had a discussion about some purple laces etc and I've still unpacking specimens so I thought I'd post these while I have found them. The rest are just some misc specimens I think I've never posted before. Weird light today as we have a bit of a storm coming . Sorry for that. Thanks for looking....Mel
Royal Purple Aztec Lace a Agate from Durango, Mexico. This is what I think you had slabbed and cabbed Steve. Thing is, there are very few purple agate types worldwide and, in my experience none other except the occasional Agua Nueva Purple Agate, have this sort of lacy
effect.
Utah Purple Lace from the Topaz Mtn Range near Delta, Utah. I apologize for the lack of purple. Like a doofus, I left this specimen out in the sun and, purple being a fugitive color, the darn thing bleached out to almost gray. Was much more purple when I got it. This example is more plumy than most too. Most are just lacy, wavy banded stuff.
Now just some fun ones. First, Tampa Bay agatized coral from Florida. I love this stuff especially when the polyp design still shows on the shell.
Couple tumbled pieces. They're really shiny but it doesn't show in the pic. This stuff is super fun to tumble! Wish I had a bunch!
Found one of my cartons of cool small stuff. First a geode from the Baker Ranch digs in New Mexico that combines druze, plume, blue opal etc:
I love these things too. They are called conchos and come out of Brazil, I think. Sort of a circular druzy desert rosey type thingee. really sparkley but the pic doesn't show it much. Someday, when I learn to silversmith, this puppy is gonna be a bola tie.
Finally, another of my favorite materials, Moctazuma Agate from Chihuahua, Mexico. Lots of these are duds but man, once and a while, you get a good'un. This is dome polished.
