I had my saw up and going this weekend while I was setting up my silversmithing equipment in my shed. I thought I'd show you a bit of what I cut... First, four samples of OJ: I love these pieces! The orbs in this one are a bit more deteriorated - less definite. It's also a bit pitty in the orby/solid colored section: Absolutely love this: Another looker - the yellow is pitty toward the end, but the other end is solid: Stone Canyon: Brazilian: Autumn Jasper - I hate cutting this stuff, and this chunk reminded me why: Well, that's the highlights. There were more slabs of each cut (except the Autumn Jasper ), but I figured that would give you a good idea of what the rough looked like!

I grabbed that OJ with the green orbs and put it in the buy bucket and never thought twice. I haven't done anything with my two endcuts.
Did you cut the green/purple stuff yet?

Spectacular cuts all. I really like that wavy orange example too. Just to satisfy my curiosity, why was the Autumn Jasper difficult to cut? I got a whole carton from Kimmie and haven't tried to cut it yet so was just wondering.....Mel

Oh, Autumn Jasper, let me count the ways I hate you...
1) You're messy. One cut (granted, they were very big slabs for a 14" saw at first) and I almost needed to change my oil. 2) You stop my blade. And no, it's not like making my heart stop out of beauty. 3) I have to watch you the whole time - and it takes a LONG while - you cut. I can't leave the saw at all.
Let me qualify all that by saying I have a drop saw, and I have no idea if that changes anything. If I could change the weight of the saw head, it might cut without binding up, but I have no idea. It's one of those stones that sucks the oil and slows the whole process down.
Daniel - haven't cut that one yet. The last two OJs and the Polka Dot are next on my list, followed shortly after by the Mexican Poppy. They're all lined up and ready, as soon as I change my oil and verify the bogging down was because of the Autumn Jasper. Probably need to slice a few lines into my blade sharpening stick as well...

Autum Jasper is a dirty rock. Nice patterns though.

I HATE Autumn Jasper. It really bogs the saw down, jambs it up, makes the oil dirty, bogs the saw down, jambs it up, makes the oil dirty, etc. Those slabs of Ocean Jasper are fantastic! Bob

Very nice slabs! When cutting porous rock (sucks up the oil) try soaking rock in a bucket of water over night, before slabbing. That should help. Daniel

That Autumn jasper is really pretty. I'll have to look for some for my daughter, whose name is Autumn. That red, orange and yellow ocean jasper is really atypical, never seen any like that before.

Wow I thought that yellow Ocean Jasper I got that was so expensive was neat, it pales in comparison, what great material, I love yellows, the brighter the better, nice stuff, and worth the struggle with the saw.
