I recently bought a Star Diamond tumbler that had a single large drum/barrel but with two rubber liners that divided it into two 6 lb. sections. But, I wanted to tumble 12+ lbs in a single load.
I started looking at the 12-15 lb barrels on tumblers and they all looked like they had the same design; look at a Thumler's Model B and most large barrels look the same except for the color. It certainly looked like my Star Diamond barrel. I figured that each tumbler manufacturer can't be making the barrels with the same design, so there must be somebody who OEMs them for the tumbler manufacturers and I would guess they've been doing it for some time.
At any rate, I thought I would take a chance and buy a Thumler's Model B liner and see if it fit in my Star Diamond drum. Sure enough, it fit like a glove. The only thing I noticed was that the bolt holes on the lid liner were not quite far enough out toward the rim. Fortunately, the lid liner stretched.
Now I have a choice. I can run two smaller loads or one large one.
At any rate, I thought this might be useful to others looking to replace liners on their older 12-15 lb. equipment (Scott-Murray, older Lortone, Sears, etc.). Of course, your mileage may vary.

Thumler's makes most of those except the Scott Murray which is a little different.

Thanks John! I expected that somebody who actually knew would chime in!

Hey Chuck, I had a 15 lb Scott-Murray that had 2 separate 6lb liners and 1 15 lb liner. I gave it to one of the members here who was in need of a tumbler.

Thanks that’s good information.
While we on the FYI subject and 15 pound barrels….I was going through Model B lid gaskets more often than I liked so I made new ones from a little harder rubber and they worked better (longer). Then I picked up some UHMW plastic an eighth inch thick and made lid gaskets out of that.
At this point I think the UHMW gaskets will last for years, maybe a lot of years. That is some really great stuff. I wish I could make the barrel liners out of it or maybe the whole barrel instead of metal.

If you buy the B drums/liners new they have a 5 year warranty. The lid gaskets are not warranteed. I know for a fact that Thumler's B drum is the drum used by Diamond Pacific on their 12T formally Contempo Lapidary and Highland Park so fits all those. Glad to find out they also fit Star Diamond. Star Diamond made a lot of stuff for Sears so that's a maybe and I really don't know about Lortone.

Also, a good source for gasket materials are commercial hose suppliers. Years ago in the A/C trade we would by 2 ply neoprene for cooling tower and other pipe flange gaskets and the stuff was indestructible.
