This is something that I just started slabbing, I_think it's a golden palm root or bog, any thoughts? (Mel?) And this I have yet to slab, something I picked up a while back. Can anyone ID this? ((Mel??)) ;D Two sides and a cut face Thanks a bunch!

I think the poppy jasper is Guadalupe poppy jasper. Here's a photo for comparison:

Nice stuff Brian. It's not Texas palm root. Don't know about Palm Bog, I've never quite figured out what Palm Bog is. :/

Thanks Curt, maybe it's California stuff? I gotta feeling Mel can knows where it's from, down to which wash it was found in lol. The palm/bog thing kinda BOGgles my mind too

Now that is definitely some wild looking palm root and in an unusual color too. I've seen similar in red orange colors from around Castle Butte on the Mojave but not that nice gold. Nice find!!!! I'd say Guadalupe on the poppy jasper too but there is similar stuff from Indian Valley near Fort Hunter -Legget too. Those poppies with all the radiating lines are more common at those sites than at Morgan Hill but I've seen similar from there too. The root bog thing kinda of overlaps. We call it root then it's really full of root cross sections and bog when it's got a few roots, rootlets etc but is mostly just agate with little plant parts...Mel

Thanks for the info Mel. I'm 3 slabs into a pretty big chunk of that root stuff, it's pretty neat. Man I'm still sitting on that box of poppy from your ranch, can't wait to get into it with the saw and the cabber!

I would concur that the second one is Guadalupe Jasper. Bob
