Howdy folks, Well, finally finished cleaning out the storage locker and am moving the boulders into the yard where they'll someday be cut or incorporated into the new butterfly garden we'll build as soon as we get a gate to keep the deersies out of the yard. By the way, something has been raiding our birdseed at night and it turned out to be Porcupines of all things. Now there's a sticky problem to solve *L*. Anyway, here's a little more eye candy from the California rocks I moved. Thanks for looking.....Mel The largest and best boulder I ever found n the North Cady's of all things, right after a flash flood and within a quarter mile of Basin Road. Got to say though, it were a long 1/4 mile through the sand with this baby on my back. Couple of closeups to show you how pretty Cady's Plume/ Moss can be. This is a hunk off the deposit we call the Lost Bill Ledge cause a guy named Bill found it and brought out sample for us to see and then when he took us back we couldn't find it again. He says the vein runs from one foot to more than 6 feet thick. Now that's a vein I'd like to find!!!!! And a big boulder of Rainbow Ridge Jasper/Agate. I think this stuff is some of the best material on the Mojave. And finally, my two largest hunks from the Firefly Jasper vein I left behind in California *sigh*. I'm gonna miss that pit. The best pieces had these pink centered white poppies on a deep purple background.

I love Big ROCKS! That 1st one is a monster. When I first saw the 2nd one I thought it looked like Wood...but that shows you what I know. I like trying to guess what everything is before reading what it actually is. Didn't even have a guess for the last stuff...but that is soooo wild looking. Hows your back holding up? Steve

Beautiful and HUGE rocks, Mel! Roxy, to drop it on the toe supposes you could firstly lift such rock, which is impossible unless you are a "strongest man contest" competitor . Adrian

We are headed down to San Diego from the PNW are will be stopping by the the Cady's........with my wifes luck at finding the big ones, I will not be complaining about packing one of these out. This material is beautiful, and it looks pretty solid. The way we travel, of course Cady Mountain is on the way! One look tells us all why that one was not left behind! Woody

Did you really carry that out? With the pics you are showing, I can imagine how beautiful that butterfly garden is going to look. Better get a gate with a lock cause deersies come in two varieties, four legged and two legged ;D
When I see rocks that size and that beautiful, I don't think jewelry, I think tables, wall hangings. Imagine taking a bubble bath in a tub made of of this stuff. Now that would be luxury!

Wow Mel those are huge, and beautiful. There is enough rock in those to keep me cabbing the rest of my life and I'm sure you have plenty more to show us.

Well, you might be able to get a cab or two out of those...
I could just hear my wife if I brought something like that home, "Now you're going to want an even bigger saw." :-)

Woody: Take Basin Road south off Hwy 15. Turn off is about 45 miles east of Barstow. Head south till you hit the Railroad Tracks ( A couple miles down Basin Rd. it will fork. Stay on the worse looking of the two roads at the fork. It goes straight south and the better road turns west and heads into a mine and out of the agate area). When you're at the tracks, you'll be at the outlet of the Mojave River and Afton Gorge. Any of the exposed gravel banks along the river will yield good jasper, agate and rhyolite, and maybe even some nice palm root.
sitnwrap: Yup, carried it out all by myself along with three other from the same area. My buddy that same day, found a huge slab of purple and white plume agate that probably weighed 25 pounds and was about 4" think. The flash flood the week before really exposed a lot of stuff. That was my best trip there ever!
Chuck: My wifes comment went something like. " Wow! That one won't fit in your saw so I guess I'll take it for my garden. And don't even think about cracking up that beautiful yard rock so it will fit your saw!"......Mel

Butterfly Garden? Your macho image just bit the dust Mel. ;D
Them don't belong in a butterfly garden. Build some nice heavy stands and put them in the house. You got 5 acres, tell the wife to build her own house. ;D

*L* Heck Curt, I just have a great appreciation for all things purdy, maybe cause I ain't. Purdy rocks, purdy gals, purdy bugs, purdy guns, purdy knives, purdy flowers, purdy boots, purdy trucks, purdy birds etc. Though, not necessarily in that order.....Mel

That Cady's plume is NICE! I wouldn't mind a chunk or two that size, lol. Here's my biggest find from Quartzville Creek near Sweet Home, Oregon...about the size of a bowling ball: That's a penny next to it.
