If you don't know why post? That one is getting old. But if you like I will name it after you. Moronite.

Hey, it's not my fault you picked up miscellaneous silicified gravel and then want to know what it is. If it's not pretty, useful or rare, I think you have four pieces of junk there. Sorry about your luck.

I'm sorry if I don't live with the rockies in my backyard. I live on the pairies. And am trying to learn more about rocks. If you don't know what they are. Why post. Or are you just posting garbage to get stars beside your name, so people think you know what your talking about? The one in the upper left looks good when polished. It hase a nice birdseye maple look to it. I will post a pic when its done. Just because its not Agate, does not me its crap. To me Amber makes Agate look bad, But I don't make rude comments on other peoples finds/collections. If it makes them happy.Thats all that counts. Sorry if I offended you you with the Moronite tag, but if the shoe fits. Nuff said. 25 grams of Blue,Green Chiapas Amber under uv light. This gravel to?

I will take a stab at this one.
The Red one looks a lot like the Quartz I pickup in Moab. Not sure it has a particular name, but it is very dense and harder then most quartz I run into.
The two bottom white ones resemble the soap stone in our area. If they are soft, and will not take a good shine, soapstone would be my guess. If they are harder, then Marble.
The Birdseye Maple I have not heard of. We do have Birdseye Marble in our are.

Thanks URH, the red one is very hard, it marks white Quartz. The bottom 2 are about 6 for hardness. But the other my knife scratches but penny will not, so about 4-4.5. Will be done polishing tonight and will post a pic. If I offended anyone, I'm sorry. I will not get carried away again.

Looks like it took a nice shine. Pictures are the hardest part of rock collecting in my opinion. I've put hundreds on and they are just starting to look good. Nice piece of amber too. You should post some pics of the fossils you have talked about from around Kindersly for practice so I can see whats on that side of the province.

Those are some awsome fossils!!!!! Did you find all of them around Kindersley other than the amber? Also is this (looks like a agate to me) from around there too? If they are all from around you I'm comming for a visit!!

Wow, those put my brachiopods and bryozoans to shame. Isn't the one in the upper left a vertebra?

I am just learning these things too but I am going to take a stab at a couple of the rocks. Is the gold looking one kind of soft? I have found some that looks simalar and they are calcite. the two on the bottom look like quartzite to me. I was told that they are a 6 rather than quartz that is a 7. I haven't attempted to shine the quartzite yet so I am not sure if I will have any luck with it. The red looks like coprolite (dino poop) that I have seen for sale at some places on line. Don't know if it is but since you are fossil hunting, thought it could be. That's my newbe guesses. The fossils are wonderful looking! Fran
