Don't yet have my tumbler... hopefully in a month or so! Woohoo!
Anyway, onto my questions! Was just wondering if it would be possible to tumble flints/cherts with small vugs with crystals? I assume that the grits would need to be stopped from entering the vugs to avoid damage to the crystals (fine druzy quartz mainly). In that case, what would be best to use in those vugs that could be easily removed afterwards? I thought of possibly wax? But would it be too soft? Thought some of the vuggy pebbles I've collected over the years would look nice polished up!
My other question is, has anyone ever tumbled 'slag' material? We have quite a lot here in Shropshire (UK) which shows nice green and blue swirls so would look quite attractive tumbled!
Thank you for all advice! ;D

No sure about the Vugs...you can do it...if they are easily jarred off you have disaster ...if they are fixed strongly you'll be fine. wash well between stages to prevent cross contamination.
Slag is Glass and tumbles very nicely. Be patient and use plenty of cushioning material.

I'm in the process of tumbling some Mex lace that has some pockets. I filled those with Crazy Glue to keep the grit out. If they turn out okay, I'll post some pix.

One vendor I know from the Santa Cruz show does spheres; often from Septarian Nodules. He fills the voids with simple paraffin-wax and then "boils" the final piece to remove the wax. I can't see why it shouldn't work in a tumbler as well.
