okay, now that I'm done with the 200 grit, now what? I mean, the barrel is pretty scratched up and stained gray even though I've rinsed and ran comet and BBs through it for an hour or two and rinsed again.

Is it clean enough to go to the next grit?

Oh, the semi-egg shaped granite piece, much smoother than whence I found it.

I would suggest that you purchase a tumbler with a rubber lined barrel as you will not have the issue that you are describing. Jason
