Well, today I finally finished my sorting. Found a few things that were even a surprise to me as I had forgotten I even had them. Picked this material up when I first got back into the hobby again about 30 years ago. I had about a ten year hiatus while I had pursued other interests for awhile. Anyway, here's a bit more eye candy. Thanks for looking....Mel Three big hunks of Missouri Lace Agate from the lead mines district in SE Missouri. All the stuff I've gotten recently seems to be mainly black and white but back in the day, lots of more colorful material was readily available in big pieces. And here's an Arizona material you don't see too much anymore, Flower Agate. If I'm remembering correctly, I got this at a fee dig out by St. Johns when I went wood hunting one time. Somebody had blasted the deposit so it was hard to pick out any unfractured stuff but it's colorful as all get out and takes a fine polish.

Glorious Agates Mel! Eye candy indeed! ;D The Lace is very pretty stuff, those colour tones are beautiful, I can see why you stashed 'em away for future use! I like the second one best, the rainbow effect is really clear, but I'm fascinated to see the "whole vein" so to speak, it's nice to see that it doesn't form in a symmetrical fashion, but seems to have grown differently on both sides, is that a quartzy layer at the top of the third piccy? Flower Agate too - You are spoiling my appetite! That's some flash rough Sir! I like it muchly! Super contrast of colouring, does the white polish up to a translucent finish? Looks beautiful, if it's blasted - that suggests it was quite a sizeable deposit - how does that stuff form?I'm guessing it's a deep fissure filing up but I've never understood how such varieties form. Thanks for sharing your special stash! Cheers, Sparkles.

Mel: Years ago, there was a site near Edwards Air base called four Corners that has some nice flower agate. Is this an area that is both still open, and productive? Woody

Woody: Never heard the term four corners applied to a flower agate area except the four corners flower agate site on the border of Oklahoma/Colorado/New Mexico/Texas near Kenton, Oklahoma. I just dug out a hunk of that today too. I should post a pic. Don't know about a four corners near Edwards AFB in Cally except the Kramer Junction area which is still open but real picked over. There used to be a little flowering type moss there but last time I went there it was mainly just old brown bog.
Sparkles: Yep, Missouri lace often has that megaquartz layer on one side which often makes it look like Georgia's Summerville material. The flower agate site looked like an exposed ledge that had been blasted, as I recall. Log time ago though and many agate deposits ago too. The white is translucent when polished..Mel

The banding and colors in the first three are spectacular and the colors in the flower agate really pop out at you. You really have a collection to be proud of!!! Fran

Cool rocks. I occasionally see some St. John's flower agate on ebay. Pretty stuff.
