Connrock, I looked forward to retirement for a few years and like you I had dreamed of getting a big motorhome and travelling the country. With the insane cost of the motorhome and gas going out of sight that dream was smashed! Wierdly enough I still dream (nightmares?) about stressful events that I had at work. I really enjoyed my work but there were times that the stress was frightening. Its been 4 1/2 months now and I still have this mental clock running in my mind that I should be getting ready for work, preparing for an upcoming meeting, getting the personnel reviews done, etc. I do have trouble keeping track of what day of the week it is. I still have to stop and think about what I want to do today. I have to keep telling myself that I can go ahead and go somewhere because I don't have to schedule it around work. One good thing is that I had started many lapidary and jewelry projects but not finished them because work took so much of my time but now I'm focusing on getting them done. I had always joked that I could retire earlier if I could just find a good high paying second job for my wife. That obviously was doomed from the start. If fact she had already started sloughing off on her first job. She is a hair dresser (for the last 35 years) and the physical toll on her hands and neck put her on disability. OH well! I'll just have to tough out retirement. Now, what day is today? Tuesday??? Hmmmm..... Bob

Bobby, I've been "free" for almost 2 years now and every once in a while when I wake up from a "doze session" while watching TV I immediately look at my wrist watch to make sure it's t too late so I don't have a hard time getting up the next morning for work!
Like you I sometimes have to ask my wife what day it is but the one day I don't have to ask is trash day! She ALWAYS reminds me to take the trash up on Thursdays! LOL
I got my "reminder" this morning and totally forgot to do it!!!!
I guess this is one of the times that the old memory bank failures come in handy!!
My wife often tells folks "Tom's idea of all the trash cans being full is to buy more of them"!

You guys have to take the stand my father in law took when he retired. I asked him a question about doing something with me and said maybe we could do it on a Saturday, and he said to me, "Every day is a Saturday" He and his wife were fortunate enough to have have retired from Lockheed(early retirement with a nice severence package) 15 years ago and they traveled the world and have now settled down in a nice condo. But their story is one that seems to be fading away like VCR's. I will be getting a retirement pension from Lockheed too, last time I looked it will be $106 a month! Before my wife and I bought our house we used to try to decide which bridge we would live under when we get old. We thought that by finally buying a house we had it made. But with the economy going to Hell, we're back to looking for that bridge, but at least we will be able to afford a large cardboard box!!!!!! Oh well, my attitude is "Oh-bla-di-oh-bla-da"(life goes on). Besides, I'm too young to think about retirement!!!!! Nice pictures Tom. Reminds me of the book that KD had passed around to the members here called "Within the Stone", by Bill Atkinson who retired from Apple and decided to travel the world and take photos of rocks(among other things) For all the new people, here's a link to his website. www.billatkinson.com/Homepage.pl

Your a good man Tom, don't let your mind tell you otherwise. Give yourself a break. I would venture to say if the roles were reversed, you would not want her feeling guilt or burdened. With your talent I'd say a second career that you love is coming soon. Check this out! I can retire in 8 years and I have a baby coming in 7 weeks to go along with our 3 1/2 year old boy. Go figure...we were told we would not have kids, but I guess God did not listen to those Doctors. There will be no retirement for 20+ years for the kid here . No complaints! I could not be happier! I am not bragging either, just thought the picture of me working for 15 years beyond my date might cheer you up ;D john
