Hi Kim, the last batch of cerium I bought came from the Rock Shed. I bought a 5# bag, can't remember exactly what I payed for it but it was reasonable. It wasn't advertised on their site. If you call and talk to Shawn, ask him about it. They may still have some in stock. Good luck, Don

I did the same thing as donwrob. I sent an email to Shawn at the rock shed and asked him if he had cerium. He did and he sent a lb of it my way. Don't get aluminum oxide though. All I hear are bad things about it. The Titanium oxide I got was from the Thumbler Tumbler company. www.thumlerstumbler.com/ For polishing agate and jasper I prefere Titanium oxide. Tin oxide is without a doubt the best quality polish on the market but its alao the most expensive. And besides, you really only need it for glass (obsidian) anyway.

sooooo...what is the aluminum oxide good for? it must have a purpose. i hate not to use it on something but i'm sure going to order the cerium and titanium and not mess up my 1st batch.
i have been trying so hard not to mess with my rocks in step 2 but alas i couldn't leave them alone today. some were stuck to the bottom in a way to thick sludge so it was a good thing anyway. they are really looking good and i am about to burst for my new tumbler to get here so i can start some more!

"sooooo...what is the aluminum oxide good for? it must have a purpose."
It is a cheap alternative to other, more expensive polishes. But just remember, you get what you pay for...

Greetings All, So far I've gotten polish from three different sources. The first was Wrights Rock Shop in Little Rock, AK, when I purchased my first tumbler and rocks. I have also purchased several of the the Lortone 4-pack of coarse/fine grit and Aluminum Oxide prepolish/polish from Riddles Gems in Memphis, which is local for me but they don't carry larger containers and they only order a couple of times a year. And I have purchased 5 lbs of 46/70, 60/90, 120/220, and 600 grit and 5 lbs of cerium oxide off the internet from Dad's Rock Shop. Tonight I'm about to order some grit from therockshed.com, since multiple folks here have given them good recommendations and since their prices are less expensive than anywhere else I've seen. I must confess that I let myself get carried away a bit what with using too many different kinds of grit (46/70 and 120/220). I think I need to just keep it simple, 60/90, twice if need be, then 220, then sort to make sure the rocks are smooth to the touch before going to 600. Then I can go with the Alumium Oxide prepolish and finally Cerium Oxide polish. No need for 46/70 or 120/220 or 400, they just add extra expense and confuse me . So tonight I'll order 60/90 and 220 from the rockshed, since I'm completely out of those and I have some rough I'm eager to get going on. BUT the rockshed has some nice rough too, and for only $20 more dollars I can get 10 lbs of rose quartz, or maybe some of the agates, or no, I got it, the sodalite, I've been wanting to get some sodalite for a while now. Humm...HEY they want to charge me SALES TAX!!! On the INTERNET I feel violated But wait, their information page says they only charge sales tax on South Dakota orders, and I'm ordering from Mississippi, so ok, I am no longer upset about sales tax So lets see, 1 5 lb bag of 60/90, 1 5 lb bag of 220, and 1 10 lb parcel of sodalite...humm $51.35 without shipping....and shipping should be about $10, so right at sixty bucks. Alas, I don't do credit cards, and I'm hesitant to use my debit card when I don't know the exact amount being charged, so I'll send them an email, have them email me a total, then send them a check. Yes, it will take a few more days this way, but I'm patient and the rocks don't care So there it is folks, me ordering grit and more rock (it was the sodalite), and ya'll got to see it here first Oh, I also mentioned to them that I am ordering from them based on the recomendations about them that many of you have given here. Maybe that will get them to sponser some of Andys contests ;D Later... WilliamC

Greetings All,
Just to let ya'll know I got a quick response from Shawn at therockshed.com and I'll be sending them my money in a couple of days. He also mentioned that he checked out the message board, maybe everyone who purchases supplies can start mentioning rocktumblinghobby.com to their supplier? Can't hurt to have the stores know there is a growing community of lapidary enthusiasts who are potential customers.

recieved my stuff from the rock shed yesterday and am in hog heaven! thanks shawn - my QT66 is rolling with mixed stones and the dalmation stones. the rock shed will see more of me in the future.
my friends are quite amused with me right now. mark my words they will be the 1st ones begging for stones in a few months. one doesn't want any grass around her pool - some beautiful stones sure would look good and never have to be mowed.

Has any body tried 4facets.com? Tin Oxide $18.00 per lb. Cerium Oxide $10.00 per lb. and something that they call their Tripoli Polish. at $5.00 for 2 lbs.? With a price break for larger amounts.

I didn't find cerium oxide on The Rock Shed's web site but a quick email and 5 lbs. was included in my rough rock order I placed recently. Maybe the Rock Shed is not aware that this polish isn't listed on their web site.
