I went to the Northern Virginia Mineral Club 17th Annual Gem Mineral & fossil Show today. WOW! I hadn't been to a show before but had always wanted to go. There were so many dino bones, trilobites, crystals and minerals that I had never seen before and then, there were the slabs and cabs...Oh my! I just couldn't leave empty handed.
This first one is a nice Agate but I don't know what kind or what the others in this picture are. The person at the booth was giving the owner a break and couldn't help with ID.
I know a few in this picture but not all:
At the next booth with slabs, I got these and the vendor knew what they were and where he found them. Most of what he had was from Virginia and he had some really nice cabs too!
Rose River Unikite, Crinoid Fossils, Rhodonite W/Jasper, a hornblend, Bottom: Black Unikite from page, VA. Another Rose River Unikite. Red Muskovite w/quartz and an unknown agate because he couldn't recall the name at that moment.
The next are Granite from Cedar Mt. Quarry, VA. Aplite (Roseland) Nelson County, VA and an unknown on the right.
The last vendor I bought slabs from was a very nice guy that had some beautiful cabs in all kinds of settings. (I wish I had taken my camera to the show).
Here are the slabs that I got from him: Apache Jasper, Silver lace Onyx, Fossilized Sponge, bottom: Lepodolite, Sodalite, Texas Plume
Fossilized Sponge closs-up
Lepodolite close-up
this one has some nice Kona Dolomite, a Picture Jasper that looks like a profile of a dog to me and some small jade he gave me.
A blurry close-up of one of the jades
I now officially have enough slabs to keep me busy for years...or maybe one. Time will tell.
I just had a blast and my husband went with me and seemed to enjoy himself too. I think he was happy I only spent $35.
Thanks for looking!
