With apologies for what is no doubt a tired topic: My bro-in-law and I are separately polishing beach stones. My final polish is Rock Shed AO; he says he is getting better results using tin oxide. Since Atlantic beach stones lack the "drama" of what most of you folks do, the final polish/gleam is where the "Wow!"comes in, so I'd like to get the best possible results. Any suggestions on the whole beach stone process for optimum results appreciated. Using Ultra Vibe 10. Also feel like I need a support group since I think I'm getting obsessive about polishing.

I use both polishes and find that for most materials, the polish I get with the Rockshed AO is as good or better than tin oxide. Of course, I run 15 day cycles when I polish. And, Rockshed AO is way cheaper!!!!....mel

sabre52... ref "15 day cycles"... Are you using a vibe? And would you break down the cycles? Thanks so much.

bobmac: I use a vibe ( minisonic) sometimes for preforms but primarily use rotary tumblers. By 15 days I mean 15 days in polish before my final burnish with Dreft. My usual cycle is coarse 60/90 till I achieve the desired shapes usually 4-6 weeks with recharges every week and no plastic pellets. Then fine 120/220 for 15 days, prepolish ( tripoil) 15 days and finally I polish with aluminum, tin or cerium 15 days. All stages after coarse with plastic pellets. If a difficult to polish material I sometimes throw in a 15 day run in 500 grit before prepolish. I run dedicated barrels for each stage to make cleanup easier and prevent cross contamination....Mel

Thank you. The dedicated barrels seems a great idea. I've been holding off on that because of the expense.... Education appreciated.
