I am so glad i got back into tumbling, after many years away. in the past, i was into minerals and would just tumble broken arkansas quartz. this point in my life, i'm not into the mineral specimins, but seem to have tumbling fever!!! i am taking great joy in walking creeks, flipping over rocks, looking for colors and patterns. i'm still in my first batch, but i love opening and checking out progress. seeing nature's beauty coming out, via what i'm doing to creek rocks is amazing. some stones, that looked white, with black bands are turning out to be a lovely pale blue with grey bands, for instance.
i do seem to have the fever. i was just out in cold 30 mph wind walking the meremac river and saline creek (both about 2 miles from my house, in different directions) and brought home about 20 pounds of material. the stockpile has begun!!!!
just thought i'd share.

Welcome to the Forum Navi...the desire comes and goes doesn't it. Twenty pounds is quite a haul for a short walk

20# was an estimate, but a good one. i use an old fishing tackle carrier, with a strap. the inside is about 24"x12"x12". it was almost full. after it warmed up outside, and just a little while ago, i went thru it. i was cold earlier and wasn't being picky. turns out most of it, should be good stuff. i tossed around 5-7 pounds or so.

Yep, it's a real cool hobby and the fringe benefits, getting out and walking, communing with nature etc are terrific. Usually when I go out, I waffle between picking up rocks, bird watching, bug watching and just enjoying the plants and views in the countryside. Sometimes, it so darn pretty I fill my pouch with rocks and just sit and enjoy the quiet.....Mel

The addiction only gets worse as time goes on. The phrase "Too many rocks" is not acceptable but the odor of melting plastic is! (over use of credit cards for rock purchases)! Keeping dirty rocks in the living room is also accepted by some but most rocks are piled semi-neatly in the basement from floor to ceiling! "Rock Slide" signs MUST be posted in walk ways!! Good luck and welcome! connrock Ps: a photo of my house,,,,

LOL yeah, hounding definately grows on you. You'll finally figure out you're addicted when you're on the phone trying to borrow a Bobcat to clean-up your yard.

I completely empathise!! I don't even have a tumbler yet but already have quite a few batches put aside for when I do!!! Have you taken photos of the different stages for comparison?
