Hi,
I have an inland machine (which I am very happy with) but it will not cut some of the rocks that I have. Does anyone know of anyone who provides a cutting service in the UK?
I do not have many but I would like them slicing into slabs so I can cab them.
Names and approximate costs would be lovely.
Thanks in advance.

I think the best person you should try is Jack (Yorkshire). I cut my own slabs at the mo' but I've only just started cutting them and not quite got the hang of things yet and tend to mess them up big style sometimes.

Hi Paula, I'm in the UK too, and although I can't help directly with slab cutting services, I do share your quandary. I have a little Inland lap and grinder too, and I love the stuff I've been able to make. I also have a 7in tile saw which does an acceptable job of slabbing out little chunks for cabs and polished specimens. However it can't handle cuts deeper than about 4cm without rotating the rocks, and I get some gnarly looking slabs when I do it! I got my tile saw from Axminster Powertools - www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=580437&name=tile+saw&user_search=1&sfile=1&jump=0 and it's been an excellent investment. I always drool when I see those huge slabs the lucky blighters with "proper" saws produce, but my little 7in tile cutter makes me smile whenever I use it. Do ask if you want to know more - and I look forward to hearing of your next project! ;D Cheers, Sparkles.

Hi Paula, I know that Manchester Minerals used to have a jewellery fitting/fixing service - whether that involved cabs and slabs or not I'm not sure. You could try the British Lapidary and Mineral Dealers Association www.blmda.com - they might know of someone that could help you out. I've only got a diddy saw so I can't help you out I'm afraid. You could also try a lapidary society - like the one in Bristol - they have the big saws - you might be able to post them the material and they send you the slabs back. Sorry I can't help personally..........

Hi Paula, I used to be stationed with the US Air Force at Lakenheath . If the Texas DIY stores are still around, and a tile saw would suit your needs, check them out. You will want a continuous rim blade, not the usual segmented edge blades. Cheers, Mark H.
