I'm looking for someone (or more) to join me for some insane hounding out at my "new spot" near southern Death Valley. I wanna stay for two or three days, and I wanna do it ASAP (like in the next few days). Guaranteed "jackpot", a person in reasonably good shape will easily walk away with 500 pounds, 1000 with a little effort. My goal for this trip is to explore the area, mainly looking for the agate source.
I won't be bringing camping gear, just tools, food, drinks, a lot of water, and a couple of changes of clothes. Sleeping in my truck. No fire. Hounding from dawn til dusk.
Anyone interested in an extreme adventure, please PM me.

I should just quit my job and head out, but I have too many prior obligations to join you ASAP. If you can do this around the first part of January, I will go!!

My plan was to be staying in Shoshone last night, but my gf and I both came down with colds and decided to stick round closer to home for the weekend. Sounds like you've got a pretty hard core adventure in mind, (probably not the gf's idea of a vacation), but if it weren't for work I'd be there with you myself

I'll undoubtedly be making many more trips out there, so future opportunities are pretty much a given. I'm wanting to get down there ASAP due to the weather ... highs in the upper 60s all week and no rain. It just doesn't get much better than that in these parts.
When I hound, I go at it pretty aggressively, but that doesn't mean I expect others to do the same LOL. You can bring whatever camping equipment you want and hound at your own pace.
I should also mention that there's a herd of 25-30 wild burros that call this area home. They weren't there when I went, but they're usually there. Hehehe they're not something to be afraid-of. Although I'm not familiar with this herd, most desert burros have had a lot of exposure to man, so they're generally very friendly ... some may even saunter-up to see what you're doing or let you pet them. The "danger" of the burros is the little land mines that they've left in abundance throughout this area lol. Again, I'm not familiar with this particular herd, but if they're like most, interaction will probably be a given, just DO NOT EVER feed them anything.
With about 6 or 7 out of every 100 Americans being out of work, I figure someone might like to get away for a few days to break the stress of unemployment. Retirees may like to get out of the house. It's as cheap a vacation as it gets ... just gas ... and you can easily make that back just selling a couple of pieces that you collect.

Wish I was on the same continent, I'd be up for it. Would cost me a little too much from where I am tho.

Wish I could join you, this is the way I like to hound. I always cuss when the sun goes down, or the truck is full.
One question, what type of stone are you after.

Agate ... FINE agate.
Why? You foresee Friday as a "sick day"? LOL
If Tony were "feeling sick" that day, you could drive down together!
Dayum, I'm such a bad influence!

Hey Michael - I'm in the same boat...my employer just gave me the pink slip also. I wish I could go, but I just don't have the money to get up there right now. Let me know how the trip goes, maybe you can post some pictures Ozzy

January or February might work for me. A possible interference for me might be my wife. She's talking about going to the Tuscon show about then. Bob

I'm on the same continent, but too far away. I'd love to do this if I were closer (and had my wife's permission). If I'm going to hound, that's the way I like to do it!

Ozzy, this is a very remote location. It's never been a popular hounding site, and as far as I can tell, I'm the only one pulling anything out of there. The stuff I got when I was there was just a quick sampling ... tip of the iceburg. Since then, I've done a much more thorough study of the area, and there's MUCH more to be found in the immediate area. My next time out there will be a "discovery mission", investigating the written and Google Earth clues I've found. There are a lot of probabilities and possibilities. Here are just a couple shots of agate I collected out there... This one's about the size of my hand: And this one's way bigger than my head: The limitation there isn't "what you can find", it's how much your vehicle can carry.
