i was planning on exploring around the washington state park area this morning (franklin county, missouri) for agates. but, i woke up to snow and rain and cold. not wanting to drive an hour each way to search and maybe find nothing, i halfed the distance and went to morse mills, missouri, instead. which, is in jefferson county. the city park is on the banks of the big river. there is several hundred yard beach type area, made of sand and stones. despite the cold wind and being too much of a wuss to wash the stones in the river (and taking a bunch of leaverite home as a result), i found a good bit of nice agate, in a short period of time. there was also chalcedony and hemitite there as well. the agate ranged in size from golf ball to softball. it's river worn and all brown. i can't wait to see the beauty of it, once i begin tumbling it. my guess is that there will be bands of blue, red, white and yellow.
oh, the wait until the next coarse grind!!!! hopefully around christmas, i'll get this started.
