Simon, It was around 40 F (5 C) That is warm for us, this time of year it can be -20 F (-29 C) ? I think... Also more winters than not, by now the rocks would be snow covered until spring. I am used to hunting big game up in those mountains when it is well below zero, so is a easy day here in the Rockies.

Nice location. Is that anywhere near Kalispel? I love the western part of Montana.

Pictures of Montana make me homesick!
Although I have to admit this was my least favorite time of year up there, its not fall anymore, but there isn't enough snow to go skiing quite yet...
But it looks like rock collecting season isn't quite done yet either, nice haul for a day at the river!

brent, It is the upper Yellowstone, north of the park. The river valley is known as "The Paradise" The mountains are the Absorokas. Once home of "The Bird People" or as the white men named them, Crows. Roxy and michaeljohn, will add photos of fish from my area. We mostly have trout around here, Cutthroat, Rainbow, Brown and Brookies. Also Grayling. I do forget that the beauty I live amongst is so appreciated by others as well, I have more good photos from similar trips this summer and fall that I will share soon, including Rocks. These places are my Church, the peaks the Cathedral, the waters the Chorus. A lesson from my Grandfather learned many years ago. These two scenery shots are in the Gallatin Range, one drainage to the west from Paradise Valley. Browns and Rainbows Cutthroat and a Grayling (Native to this area) It is a large fish for a Grayling, caught a little over a week ago. The lake specie can be kept, the fluvial (river type) are endangered and are released.

Gorgeous! Words can't describe it! I love to look at the pics, but I'm afraid I would freeze up there. When it gets to 40 here, I'm very uncomfortable. In my younger days.....YES without doubt!
Thanks for the pics.

Man now those are some scrumptious looking fish! lol.. My dad loves to fish! so growing up was always getting to go along and grew to love fishing too! (hate cleaning them tho) but love a good fish fry. and talk about breath taking pics! I've been to Mt before.. seen some of the most beautiful country.. and been to some of the most sacred parts but "paradise valley" sure takes the cake!
Never seen Grayling before... but your rainbows are HUGE! last time I seen a rainbow that big was when we went fishing up in Green Bay. Thanks for the extra pics.. makes me wanna go grab my gear and Go get me a fish! lol

Great photos. It is seriously beautiful where you live. The rocks and fish are both so colorful. Here in PA the rocks and the trout are rather bland. Most trout are stockers and never have good color.
