All - a while back I was rambling on about an idea of selling rocks from the main website.
Whilst Ive been away on hol Ive been thinking more about this and may have an idea on how to do something for anyone who wants to sell items.
If I program an order taking system on the main site - whereby I can take orders for rocks (say), then I can send the order to the person (i.e you guys) who is geographically closest the person who placed the order.
Or like this maybe.
Each person here who'd like to make online sales, can send me pics, prices etc of items. Price per weight etc etc.
Then, on the main site, I can create a catalogue for each member who wants me to do so, and highlight it so that the surfer can place an order from their nearest supplier.
For taking payments, I can charge to a Merchant account and then you can invoice me for your costs of the rocks, postage etc. And I can wire transfer USD no probs immediately.
This isnt for us members as such - we are the "suppliers" - this ordering system will be used by surfers on the main site (about 3000 new people per month).
Basically I act as an affiliate of you guys - I get the orders and charge you say 5% - which you add on to your pricing structure.
Something along those lines - I was thinking people who order stuff would also come back if we provide a good service.
And I am sure we can do that somehow.
All thoughts appreciated. Would it work etc etc?
Rock Tumbling Hobby - the NETS BIGGEST SUPPLIER OF EVERYTHING ROCKS!
That sort of thing. In good time - it could well become the nets biggest - dont see why not.
Have a think all.
Mark

hey theres a lot of companies who do drop shipping for e-bay auctions etc,, where do you think most of the "just found dynamite crates of ____" come from, they are all half pound lots drop shipped from one of 3 companies out there.
a coop would be great, im up for ideas, it could be made to work. mabye like a classified system with centralized ordering from the site. Logistics are the only thing i cant see for certain.

as a potential customer, I like the idea. I mean the idea of picking up some rocks from Africa or Iraq are just intriquing. I am still collecting from the 50 states. A friend brought me one from Missouri today and another friend sent me one from South Dakota. I have to wonder if I'll ever get one from Hawaii. They are rather superstitious about rocks leaving Hawaii.

Shold work- especially with our "flat rate" boxes- the shipping in the USA will be reasonable- Out of country shipping is gonna be a bit more costly-

The thing is - that there are thousands of people going into RTH.com itself without even looking in here. (which is a shame but thats the way it is at the mo). We all buy stuff - only yesterday I bought 4 tubs of 80 grit from my local supplier - theres nothing wrong with selling stuff. I get the feeling Im a git just because I want to set up a selling platform. My 80 is for a load of pet wood from Krazy Diamond which is on the roll at the mo. The "bigger picture" is easy to see - im an affiliate - you guys who want to spread out a bit get the orders. Ive always thought I can sell my stuff - and I do - but only on a small scale - say 5 pounds for this or that. Anyway - if anyone has a beckoning for something more than a hobby - get it going here. I can certainly do more traffic than I do now - but as Im only doing it as a hobby (thanks to KD I made some fridge magnets today - 12 infact - ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) for instance) - I also need your support. Im small - but wouldnt mind growing and I can DEFINATELY make a few bucks at this. Why not? People want our skills and stock - lets trade some? (sick of programming - Mark)

Do you think we could sell some of our tumbled rock as well? I only use a small portion (as I think most do) for my jewlery but have pounds of beautiful polished rock just sitting around collecting dust. This may be a great outlet for it.

I wish I knew what the f**k the electricals are. Infact I wish that I could post on my own board without being accused of being "got by them" - whatever they are. Hmmmm - Doc you seem to be waging a war on me - I havent been got - Im just a bloke - im doing some KrazyDiamond pet wood at the moment. These electricals are non-existent. And I'm right proud to be tumbling some petrified wood from a member of the board - namely Krazy Diamond. who is a total star in my eyes and needs more tea. All is smooth - yes it is - but "electricals" - ....... Pause for thaught........ Doc I still dont know right out what you mean. I havent been "got" I dont think. Hmmm - Youve got me there and I'd like to put a stop to it. But I dont know what Im putting a stop too exactly. Time after time you say ive been got by the "electricals". Time after time I keep looking out for the buggers and I dont know what they are Doc. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I friggin really dont. Drop dead serious - I must be thick and stupid. But one of my barrels is wearing thin and will probably leak im saying is Doc can you stop going on about my middle name pls. Of course my Name is Mark - my middle name is Andrew.

I have tried for years to market my art without haveing to actually deal with people. Mark, I wonder/hope you have stumbled on a concept that might make a wonderful difference for a lot of people who might otherwise be burned out by dealing with their treasures in a world of people who do not even know such things exist. I have been so burned out by dealing with the public I have not had a chance to make anything for me in so long it almost seems a lifetime ago. The last exciting thing I made was faceting the saphire for Cookie and doing the wrap for it. Hurricane Charley took my tumbler and since then, through the confusion I have not tumbled to this point. Ever since I laid my hands on petrified wood, I envisioned Intarsia made with it, and Opal. Then I found Mokume'Gane. I envisioned petrified wood, Mokume'Gane, set gemstones. Then I found out how little I really knew, and how difficult it was to make what I saw. I now have some Lightning Ridge Blue/black Opal, Cookie is sending me some petrified wood. I am getting closer. Not close enough, but closer. Sandsman in my opinion makes the perfect cabochet. His work is flawless, in my opinion. I am getting to see wire wrappers start, and really get good. It was a pretty obscure art. We are bringing it back into vogue!! Mark, I have said this before. As a result of your initiative, I have met a lot of good people I would never have met otherwise. I can barely get attachments to work on e-mail, let alone send photos. I could never have made a forum as available to be a part of people's lives. Especially in art such as this. I shall be amazed, I am sure, how far this whole thing can go. What a concept, it won't be Ebay, it will be a gallery. Pehaps you can accomplish what I tried and it just fell flat. What an opportunity. Mark, it may not seem it at times, you have earned my respect. It is not good to wear bbls thin. Perhaps I can help at times.

Mark & Duck, Some people blame things on planet alignment, on the full moon, aliens, Fictitious characters like Gremlins... But Doc uses the word "electricals" "I don't know what happened to So & So... The Gremlins must have got them" " I don't know what's wrong with my e-mail... Gremlins must be inside my computer" "What's wrong with So & So? ... I don't know, must be the full moon or something" "Why did I all of a sudden get a flat tire? .. I don't know, an Alien probably zapped it from outer space" "Why has the world gone crazy? ... Must be planet alignment" "Why is my stereo acting up?... must be solar flares" etc.... Doc blames things on invisible electrical "waves" that surround us. When something doesn't go right, he blames these invisible "electricals" Does that make things a little more clear? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Alice, thanks for helping. Kinda yes, but, I took things too loosely. I have to look at what else has migrated. I am too absorbed in my shop. It is not that other cultures are involved. I am finding myself venting and that takes up the joy in others in their accomplishments. Mark is coming up with a really great concept. I had not seen, but I am seeing where my current example is not a contribution, to say the least. It was not my intention, nor was it my intention to hurt to be the annoyance I have become. I have some humble pie to prepare, and an example to set. I was out of line, and it was not funny.

Doc - I think your a great dude - and have always read your posts with vigour - it was just this "electricals" thing that was confusing. Im going to come to alaska and find you - and stick a fridge magnet on your fridge. (KD gave me the idea of fridge magnets now Im up to my eyeballs in them ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ) All is smooth over here. Very smooooooth. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Now chill out everybody. Remember, the thing this board is most known for -- besides all the info about rock tumbling -- is the lack of squabbling and the friendly and helpful attitudes of the participants. It's a rarity.
