I got these slabs from the Sac Mineral Society rock show recently. I have no idea what it is, but I love the metallic look to it - but MAN, was it messy!! Black water, black soot stuck to my nails and the crevices of my hand...bleh. But love the result! What IS it? I think he dug it in Oregon...maybe! Thanks! [

Metallic and it's messy, it's probably some material containing marcasite/pyrite in the mix. Sometimes give off a sulfur smell when you cut into the metallics too. The real black stuff could be psilomelane which is also super messy.....Mel

Deedolce, Did you see me at the Sacramento show??? I was the one with the firey, glazed over eyes. I was disappointed with this year's show compared to last year, though. Not much good cutting material, as if I needeed more cutting material. Bob

Thanks Mel, I have a feeling that's as close as I'll get for a 'name'! ;D Bobby!! I was there...I still went home with lots of slabs, mostly from the man in the 'backroom' where I got this slab! Shoot, I wish I knew which of the firey, glazed over eyed guys was you. I need a RTH T-shirt for occasions like that!

I vote marcasite/pyrite in agate/jasper as well. Pyrite makes black nasty staining crud when you grind or polish it.
