Oh my word, that is exquisite Steve!
What an astonishing piece of stone, the agatisation is perfect, and that colour and structure is so fascinating. Looks like honeycomb - looks like a winner to me! Brilliant slabs!
Cheers,
Sparkles.

I love the colorful patterns too but sometimes they don't tell you everything. Here's response to a question I posed about dino bone from a noted paleontologist.
"All dinosaur bone is not lapidary or jewelry worthy. For instance, at my digsite, none of the bone is agatized and is unsuitable for lapidary work. However, the bone quality can be excellent with perfect surface texture and whole bones or whole dinosaurs. The best lapidary dinosaur bone is the reddish bone that is agatized. The one you have appears to be agatized, but would not know how good it is unless cut. High dollar dinosaur bone for lapidary/jewelry is the very red bone with other colors (often yellow, orange, brown, etc.) highlighting the cellular structure. What people do not tell you is that, often, the prettier the agatized bone is, the higher the radioactivity of the bone. Often, the very nice colors in the bone are due to radioactive minerals/elements that have infiltrated the bone structure via groundwater migration prior to fossilization and preservation."
I made a inquiry about a specific location so I'm not sure if his response applies to just that locality or if if applies to all localities.

Thanks for the insight Steve. I guess the Dino Cab I made last would be considered one of those prized bones. I know it's one of the best I've ever cabbed. It has the dark reds with the yellow...Really Cool! Steve

Steve: I tend to think people sometimes get all paranoid over terms like" radioactive",etc. I'm sure there's no hazard with regard to your slabs as long as you don't ingest them. Even then - that will not be enough to make you glow in the dark. I just thought it was an interesting tidbit that he gave as to why some dino bones turn out to be lapidary material and others do not. I posted it here for interested readers. By the way- you have some really spectacular bone. Whoever wins that contest is getting one heck of a prize... Steve
