Great tutorial! It enforced my feeling that there's no way in hell I'd ever have the patience to sit and do it! LOL
I'll just stick to getting rock for you artists to make all pretty. I'm perfectly okay with that. Who knows, one of these days I might just break-down and buy a tumbler!

Randy comes through! Awesome job Randy and thank you! I've looked at a dozen tuts and without even picking up the wire I can tell the tips you've given are going to help my learning curve tremendously!! I've started six or seven wraps, got frustrated, and have only finished one...that I'm ashamed of. LOL Tonight I'll tell my wife what kind of wire I want for Christmas!!

Randy, Great photo tutorial! You really hit the basics. If you "face" your cutters, you can get flat ends, the cut won't make an angled end. I take my cutters and grind them down untill there is no bevel. I also take 220 wet or dry paper and pull it through the jaws to sharpen the insides. I take a stone and plane the outside edges. I like sharp corners. Well done "how it works", it answers a lot of questions I have seen folks ask. A picture is worth a thousand words. Well done.

I do that with all my cutters. When I snip prongs and cup burr round, I do not lose that much metal compared with having to file. DO NOT CUT ANYTHING BUT WHAT YOU WRAP WITH with those tools. The ferrous metals will give your cutters, and duck bills and chain links a signature that will be impossible to eliminate. Cutting stainless is ok, kinda, but definately not steel, no matter what. Ruins them.

Great tutorial, better than some of the books I've read. One day I'll get round to trying a bit of wrapping.
Like the swirly bits and the pics do make it look simpler to do.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

WOW. Thanks for all the hard work that went into that. Maybe I'll get up the nerve to try it.

Woohoo Randy! That is just fabulous! - I'm glad I saw this, cuz I always made my side bends with the cab in the wrap and they were never that nice! I give you 8 thumbs up (I borrowed some from my family!) Another tip for newbies of what I found: round wire is difficult to use for the main wires AND for wrapping - square is better because they all line up nicely and don't "flop" around when you work with it - this may just be me, but I don't like round wire

You're right, square wires always stay lined up better IMO. Some of the old timers ;D might have better luck with the round stuff. I started out with it, but it looked like crap. No big deal, it was craft wire from Micheals. You gonna give the family their thumbs back? Oh.... if the wrapping gets frustrating, go outside, kick a brick wall then go mix yourself a white russian. (works for me anyhow) ;D

Wow, I can't wait to read this one, Randy, but I have to bookmark it.... no time to read it now! Maybe it will encourage me to try to wrap over the Christmas (school) holidays!

Randy: Thank you for posting this beautifully done tutorial! My wife came home today with it printed out from work. I had not looked at it since I do not wrap, but she has been learning to wire wrap over the last year. She has been a wee bit slowed up due to having both thumb joints reconstructed, but that is done, she is really getting started. This tutorial is much better done than the books on wirewrapping she has. Again, Thank you! Woody

You're welcome, and thanks so much for the kind words!! There are a couple more areas that I'm gonna touch up on as soon as I get some time, like mass-producing tumble pendants for one. I've also just learned the proper way to slab rainbow obsidian, and the silver sheen obsidian. Too many people keeping secrets here!! ;D

Been gone for a while-but every time I come back there is always something great! Randy-way to go on this one! Great detail, great pictures, great technique. I always end up doing things the hard way and my Bails (what you are calling hanging loops) have always been the bain of my work! Ditto on Jonje's comment above-I always use half round for bindings-although you sure can't tell the difference on the finished product in your pics! Great Work Randy, thanks KJ

I changed a few words around, I had improperly used the word bail (many times) lol.... The thing that I called "hanging loops" is the bail. .......hanging loops ;D

Happy New Year Randy! You've definitely given me a great inspiration for the new year. I'm stuck with a rock saw without a motor, a "new" old HP saw without a stand, and working too many hours. At least I have a few cabs I finished before everything went "to Hell in a hand basket," your directions, and the desire to wire wrap! Thank you bunches for such a wonderful, clear tutorial and to all who added extra tips. Susan
