My daughter is in Afghanistan for a year doing contract work. She called me and asked if I know what Lapis is. LMAO! "Of course I do silly girl.........it's the stuff I can not afford". Well, she says, "I can buy it at the market and it is a really pretty deep blue. I bought you some for Christmas". So, I ask her......."is there any white in it? How big is it?". She replies, "there ain't know white in this stuff and it is about the same size as my fist. I bought you two of them not polished and a few smaller ones that are polished". I dropped the phone, peed my pants, and passed out! LMAO Anywho, she asked me if any of my friends would like some. She can get it really cheap! I told her we would have to be careful as I did not want her to get into trouble. It would cost around 15 to 20 cents a gram plus shipping from Afg. Not sure yet how much shipping is from Afg. She is checking on it. Would anybody be interested in getting a little Lapis? Payment would have to be made prior so I can get it to her. She doesn't have the $$ to purchase out of her own pocket. Just post here if interested and I will update as I find out more info. Thx, Sheri

Just did the math: that's $89.60 per pound, plus shipping at $0.20/gram x 28 grams/ounce x 16 ounces/pound. Too rich for my blood! :-)
If it were 15 - 20 cents per pound, that would be a bargain!

Something is wrong with my math. She can get it much cheaper than that. Let me re-figure this!

Way out of my price range but depending on shipping costs and quality of material that could be a pretty good deal. Real nice quality Afghan Lapis can go about 30+ cents per gram destination cost which is about $137 per pound. Half that would be pretty cool. I'd check E-bay first for price comparisons as you can see pictures of Afghan material there.....Mel

It seems like there would be quite a bit of interest. Ok, here's the deal. I refigured and it looks closer to a nickle a gram is more the actual cost. I am going to wait until my christmas present arrives from her, take pics of it and see how much the shipping cost. Then we go from there. How does that sound to everyone?

I'll be interested if the quality and bottom-line price are good.

Sheri: Thank you for thinking of us! I too would be interested. You might ask if she can deal with wholesaler, instead of the local bazaar. Just do not let her go to the outback for rock. There is some pretty nice rock there, but like we all know it is still a dangerous place. Woody

She should be able to use the flat rate boxes. I have sent them from here to there at the sams price. As long as its a military address..........Bob
