I began rock tumbling a little over a year ago. Last July, I brought my first few batches of mixed tumbles with me when we visited the in-laws in Ohio. My mother-in-law really took to them and just plundered my bag, grabbing a bunch of white and brown rocks, and also some amethyst. She put the small handful of white/brown in a dish on her mantle and then put the small handful of purple rocks in a separate dish in the living room.
My mother-in-law is a really great person, so I was psyched to have someone to tumble for. That very night, I went online and ordered rough to tumble for her. I also collected some local stuff I thought she'd like in August.
I used the excuse of presents for her to justify (to my wife) the purchase of 6 more tumbling barrels (I added two 33Bs and a QT66 to my 3A)! I timed the tumbles to be done in time for Christmas. Since we are leaving on Saturday, I finished all the polishes and burnishes this week. I've been posting most of them in separate threads on this board.
Here is the entire haul. Viewed this way, it might not seem like a lot of results considering I was tumbling 24/7 for 5 months! But held in the hand, it is a nice big pile of rocks. We purchased a shiny, wide, metal-finish dish for her to display the rocks. I think she will be very pleased!
Starting at 9 o'clock, and running clockwise, the rocks are: amethyst, citrine, quartz (a mix of purchased and local), tiger's eye, picture jasper, and some local quartzite.
And now I can start to tumble some rocks just for me! Thanks for looking.
