I received the christmas gift that I ordered and it rattled in the box! I opened it up and it was all in pieces - I was very distraught! This is what it looked like: A close up: This is is about 5 pounds of 18 gauge 1/4" aluminum rings ;D I got a super deal from someone on theringlord forum. This is what it will hopefully look like or something like it: www.gianessadesigns.com/chainmaille.htmlOf course, I'm nowhere as thin as she is but I hope I can accomplish something like this. This kind of broken present is okay Wish me luck!

Tweetie: Good luck with that job, I think you got a big job ahead of you. I fastened 4 jump rings on Tony's bales and wanted to kill myself. I would die with that job, but it is going to be super cool and sexy when done. Can't wait to see it. Amber

Amber you must open the jump ring sideways, not pulling it apart (it will form an oval and never get it's round shape back again) - it's easier once you get the hang of it - urbanmaille.com has a tutorial if you're interested in checking it out

Tweetie, once you are done, is this for you or someone else? Just curious. It is quite lovely looking over the black dress. I can't imagine making something like. You have chosen a very cool project. Any chance posting picks from time to time of your progress. It would be fun to watch your progress.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement, I'm definately gonna need it - for anyone interested: if you check out the gallery section at www.theringlord.org/forum/ you will see amazing projects - including full chainmaille dresses and even scale dresses - this weave is relatively easy and covers large areas in short periods of time - my problem will be putting it together.... I'm still a beginner Lori it's for me - I figure it would be easier to measure for me than for anyone else - if someone likes it when I'm done, and if it fits them, I might sell it - I can't imagine that this could be sold for anything under $200.00 - this is a labor of love I'll try to post pics of my progress - if this forum still exists when I completed this, I'll post pics here. - this could be a very long project

Tweet - TheRingLord is my favorite supplier - pretty much the only place I buy my (sterling/fine silver) rings. But be careful with aluminum rings. They will leave dark marks on skin. They're nice and light, though.
Good luck on your project!

No soldering, just close them so they close flush - the guy who cut these for me did an awesome job!
I've got about 6.5x12 inches done so far - I'm working on the back

Yeah Tweet, as Nancy pointed out did you get silver? Aluminum makes you really dirty and that wouldn't be such a great look. I am waiting to see this!

No not silver (I wish I could afford to make that in silver) I'm using bright aluminum - it's been cleaned & tumbled - it looks like silver - it gets pretty shiny as it's worn - I think there are 3 different kinds of aluminum: bright, regular & etched, I got the bright stuff. - I've got about 13"x7" done - it's hard to say how much - cuz it expands & stretches depending on how you hang it.
I'm hoping to wear it over dark colors, so it won't be so bad
