there was a postng a while back about saw maintenance and water and rust and well, after i proclaimed to you all that i didn't change out water very often, i reckoned it was time to at least check the water level...........oh...my..god..
when i raised the deck from the pan i was absolutely HORRIFIED, i was growing 21st century schitzoid mold in my drain pan. oh, lordy, it was awful, i was SO grossed out.
i also had about 1/2" of sludge in the bottom, so i had a real science experiment going on. i swear i was pupating my own breed of rock bugs.
it DID cross my mind to take a photo of this nastiness, but in the end i was too freaking embarrassed and really wanted to get on with the clean up.
here is one for the Lapidary tips....
(ewwwwwwwwwwwwww)

KD, what grows in yon dismal swamp? I stopped using cool tool as it seperated and jammed the bearings in my grinder/saw unit. I had a flakey layer of brown cool tool, and under it...... I used to be in a company that recycled used Petri Dishes, and re made the Nutrient Agar. It had such a bouquet, and visual oddities. I bet you have the same thing. I have since switched to mineral oil. I use hydrolic oil now, it is mineral oil based, and I can get it in large quantities. NAPA sells it in five gallon pails. It is not for turquoise, or malachite though. That is water only.

That's too Funny! When I cleaned out this little 6" saw, I had the same thing going on. I know that there were all sorts of new minerals for scientists to discover, but they all got washed away. LOL STeve

You know that all of you might have had the "makings" of some type of cure for the common cold! Penicillin started somewhere too.....<g>

cure for the common cold for sure, yes you should have seen the grimace on my face as the ropey slime of algae dripped off the blade... i don't DO goo well at all.
perhaps one day in the far future it would have made interesting fossilized algae or something but i just couldn't wait that long.
Doc, i use Dia-Cut as a coolant but i think it's all the same stuff as Cool Tool/ what i think happened is a bug (or three or four) got in the mix and started to...well, do da decompositon rag.
gave me nightmares, i swear!
