I don't know if it has been discussed already, but what do you think (perhaps you know) what the average age is on the RTH?
I see there are a few youngsters on here, but mainly it seems to be middle aged folk.
Also, there seems to be a lot more guys that do it, which I suppose it a bit of a misconception with the hobby.

WOOO HOOO! I'm just middle aged??? OOPS. That is the average. I felt so young there for a while. If I could just get over this bug I'd feel like a young whipper snapper for a change. Bob

Still better than the club I was in 30 years ago. That club died (litteraly) a few years ago.

Brtent, I had the same thing happen to me with a club. At one time I was the president (only for a year, which was enough) and I wanted to start a program to get new, younger members into the club. The oldsters ganged up on me and effectively said they didn't want new younger members. They definitely had a clique that they were comfortable with and some younger president wasn't going to rock the boat. The club died off a few years ago. I haven't bothered to join a club since. Since I've retired and moved I'm thinking about joining the local club. I've been to a couple meetings so far and I'm not sure about the club. They didn't seem to greet or acknowledge their guests very well. Another clique? ?? Bob Bob

Yeah - I tried a club when I was in NM. I was the youngest person there by 30 years. And the other club members would rather just talk about the trips they had taken in the past...15 years ago. They weren't interested in anything "new."
Found out later that the club used to be run by the guy who owned the local rock shop. He and his wife were murdered about a month after I arrived in NM, and the club just never really moved on.

I think these forums are a great alternative to a local club. We can all get together on various field trips. I am hoping to do a few field trips next summer not to mention the Tucson show that I will be at in Feb.

You ARE a youngster, akansan! I'm 42, myself. Started this hobby on my 41st birthday.
Actually, that would be another interesting statistic. What was your age when you started this hobby, or (for some) when you re-started?

I am total middle age, 40!!! I was so dreading turing 40, but it has actually been the best year of my life. All of a sudden things make sense, and you just don't care so much what other people think of you!!!

33 years old...........and already a grandma to two, almost three grandkids. That always gets some looks LOL. Its what happens when your husband is 13 years older and has a daughter only 8 years younger than you are. So, at 33 I have inherited the nickname "Granny Shanny" from my husband......although he gets slapped every time he says it. Shannon
