A lot of people think that gluing bell caps on rocks is easy. Well, it is if done correctly. First, I fit every one of them to the bell cap one at a time. As the cap is fitted, I place the stone into the slit that I have stabbed into the foam rubber, with the bell cap beside it. The cap must sit exactly like it came off the pendant, because that's the only way that it will fit perfectly. This is the tool that I like to use to mix and apply the 2-part epoxy. A flathead screwdriver will work just as good. I use Hughes 330, I get mine from Exolite. I mix on an ice cream lid and scoop it right off. Then simply swipe it across the top of the pendant. The epoxy isn't the best thing to get on your skin, I always use tweezers to set the caps. This may be awkward at first, but you get the hang of it kind quick.... If you don't screw up, this is what it should look like. (just messin around) ;D lol.....

Wow, made me feel that even I could do that. The foam rubber seems to be the perfect tool for that!

what epoxy do you use and what do you use to clean up any excess epoxy? inquiring minds want to know.

Excess? Oh yeah. If there's any excess, this is easily removed with a razor knife about two hours after the bell cap is attached. It can still be done once fully cured but be careful not to slip and cut your arm off. You can use Hughes 220 or 330, the 330 cures faster. Once you mix the two parts, it's workable for about 20 minutes.

Do the caps fit on loosely? I mean do you have to squish them on or do they slip up?
Every time I've put on a bell cap, they seem to want to squish out of the top. I'd be interested in seeing how you move the prongs to make them fit on there

I use a variety of bell caps in both gold and silver and its rare indeed that they fit right. Sometimes you'll have a piece that only works with one type of bell cap. others may have several bell cap designs that will work. I make the top fit tight first by pushing the cap down tightly on the stone - even moving it some to spread the legs so the top contacts well. Fingers will work to tighten it from there and the final fit might take pliers and some very slight bends. Its patience, trial and error. Not sure about Randy, but I put the 330 on both the stone and the bell cap before I install. Probably doesn't matter. I usually don't spread the 330 all the way down the legs of the bell cap so a final adjustment is possible after the 330 sets up. Don't want any thing catching clothes or irritating skin. I clean any excess the same way - carefully using a utility knife. Once you get good at it you'll rarely have any excess 330 or adjustments to make afterwards.
One other difference in my process vs. Randys is that I "heat treat" them under a pair of 500W lamps for about 15 minutes to set the 330. Be careful as the rocks get pretty hot! Again, I doubt this makes any difference.
All this typing has made me realize I need to do what I've known all along. I need to take some pics and save the words! Randy - you have a pic tutorial ready?? lol

Your tutorials are all excellent, easy to follow, and precise. Wondering if you've ever taught classes?

Another great tutorial Randy! As with wire wrapping, I have also been a failure at the bell caps. Got glue everywhere except where I needed it. And made a huge mess. After this tutorial, I am ready to try again.
Going now to find all those bell caps and glue I have stashed away somewhere. Got tons of stones to practice on.
