Help! We bought this tumbler on ebay for my 8 year old daughter. This is our first experience with tumbling and when I downloaded the instruction manual, it states that this tumbler is not made for wet media. It mentions nothing about using rocks in it, only degreasing, removing rust and polishing. This Mom is really bumming and could use help. We chose the vibrating kind because I didn't think my daughter (or I ) had the patience for a rotary tumbler. We were trying to keep our expense down until we see how her interest level develops in this area.

Can you link us to the ebay sale? All the ones I see are for dry polishing?

I'm with you on this one, it would have taken some homework to find out the whole truth here. IMO it was misrepresented or at least not represented to its fullest. If you resale it, post it under jeweler making/casting etc., you should be able to get your money out of it. Or use it for final polishing stages as some rock turn out well with a dry polish. Or you could start casting your own jewelry...Hint: If you go looking for heat source to melt the metal, pass on anything that says Mattel or Barbie on it ;D Oh, and Congratulations...your not as much of a newbie as you were! Unfortunately education is expensive. And above all...DON'T GIVE UP!!! Dr Joe..

I would also try to get a refund from the seller, assuming it was mis-represented.

No assuming here, The auction title says " Rock Polisher Vibrating " , this is a definate misrepresentation. Did you leave feedback already?

You CAN use one for tumbling rock but you have to take it all apart and waterproof the bowl. Even then it won't work for coarse grind where the rocks get rounded off, vibes just don't work the same as rotary tumblers. Mine has worked for about a year now and the motor is on it's last legs. Trying to keep the motor dry when washing out/off the bowl is a big problem. When I got mine it even said "rocks" on the box!

Don't feel stupid, Oneflesh, I fell for it too and sent it back. It was the first one I bought. Consider yourself lucky, they are known for lots of problems. Mine said rocks on the box too. I do think you have grounds to return for full refund. If they try to withhold the shipping, make them give that back to you too. It really is false/misleading advertising.

It was definitely misrepresented. This is from the manual for that tumbler posted on Harbor Freight's web site
"This tumbler is not intended for polishing stones. For polishing stones, you need a lapidary tumbler which uses water mixed media. Lapidary tumblers are available from Harbor Freight Tools."
Sorry that you had this experience, but you should be able to get your money back.
