Hello all, I am new to the board and a budding rock hound. I had a job in New Jersey and had a chance to explore the mining museums and had a chance to do some night time prospecting for UV reactive minerals. And I got some really nice samples of Willamite and I would like to work it into a sphere and polish it. Needless to say I am clueless on what to do. I also have a lot of emeralds from North Carolina emerald mines and would like to tumble them and see what happens.
Thanks!

Hi There and welcome to the board! You have a lot of goals you have set and this is the place to help you reach those goals. There are a lot of good people with a wealth of knowledge that can help you along the way. I have never tried to tumble emeralds but I have been told that it is best to have them faceted or cabbed if they are good enough but if you do tumble them, they will take a really long time. If I remember correctly, they are about an MOH 8 so they are even harder than the agates that take 3-12 weeks in the rough grit. Don't let this discourage you though. Just be prepared to wait on the end result. I am really looking forward to seeing how they turn out because I am sure they will be worth it! Fran
