Hi all, great board!
I've been rockhounding and doing lapidary work since I was a kid, taught to me by my father and grandfather, now I'm passing on my love for the hobby to my 7 year old son (who can spot jade like a pro!). We live in central Wyoming, which is a rockhounds paradise!
I look forward to posting on this board!

Thanks Jim...
Wyoming has the largest deposits of true nephrite jade in the lower 48 states, and is considered the highest quality as well. We find it in a large area in the south/central part of the state. It's tricky to find and takes paitence and some practice at spotting it in the feild. Most of it is covered with a dull weathering rind, making it somewhat difficult to distinguish from all the other rocks laying about. Occasionally one will come across a wind polished "slick" of jade, but these are pretty uncommon, most of these were picked clean by decades of jade hunters. It comes in a variety of colors from light to dark olive, black, emerald, and apple green.

Hi Mikes,
It sounds like we have some treats in store for us! I had not even thought about Jade being from Wyoming. I am really looking forward to seeing it. Lets face it, you never stop learning on this board. Fran
