Real nice dendrites/plumes in that material, plus you got a wicked shine!

Thanks...yeah, they are about the most perfect stone I can think of for polishing...we find them already shaped and wind polished, they are beautiful and they take a great polish...another cool thing about them is that they flouresce green under UV light...

Boy I agree too. Those are one of the absolute best tumble materials. Usually almost prepolished by the wind too..Mel

Thanks all.... That is one of my favorite materials to find, but it's a bit tricky at first...you have to know exactly, and I mean exactly where to look, the location is just a thin strip of prairie on the flats north of the Granite Mountains...a half a mile in any direction of the source and you won't find any. They are a bit difficult to spot at first until you find one and you figure out what you are looking for. I love taking rockhounds up there for their first time....they look and look and start to get a bit frustrated until they find one and realize what they are looking for...they are always like "Look, I finaly found one!...wow!, They are everywhere!" Here is what they look like prior to polishing....

You get two treats in one with Sweetwaters. Like you said, they fluoresce that very nice green color under short wave light.

Yeah, they are awesome....I'm always amazed at how many people know about them considering from what a very small and remote part of Wyoming they come from....

These are gorgeous! DOes anyone know where I could buy some rough? These have such a nice balance of cround material to dendrites, not too dense like some of the montanas, etc. so often available, and good definition to the inclusions, not just a bunch or shapeless specks... Mark H.

WOW. I really think they are pretty and florescent too. That is fantastic! I don't know if I have seen it before. If I had, I may not have realized what it was. What makes it florescent? Fran

Such great rocks, mikes! You did an awesome job on them. I have some black/red agate (purchased in a large chunk on eBay) that looks pretty similar, but the plumes aren't nearly as well defined: It's currently in rough. Here is how it looks now: I hope mine comes out as good as yours!

Oh, I have some of that! It's nice to know what it is. Some of mine is really dark, too.
Now I need to dig it out and add it to my next tumble!
