Last Fall, there was one place I gathered rock that was quite different than anywhere else I hounded. This was not a glacier deposit. The rocks were rather jagged, pity, kind of crumbly looking, I guess...raw, would be a good description. No way these went through the grinding of glaciation. The area is known for a hard variety Zeolite, and there was quite a few quartz crystals around. Lots of pink shades in the surrounding basalt. Some of it vein. Some of it vesicles. I decided to cut in to a few and see what was inside. The rocks, while crumbly on the outside, were surprisingly solid on the inside. They cut hard like the quartz family. They kind of look like a combo rock. Metamorphic with agate material flowing in later? Any ideas? Is it worth hounding some more? Rock then end cut Rock then end cut Rock then end cut Thanks, Steve

Very nice material, I would definitely collect more. I like the colors and swirling patterns. It should cut some nice cabs.

From what I see, I would go back for more. It is always nice to find the inside better than the outside. I am somewhat of an expert at finding the material that is worse on the inside. Could this be a travertine? It certainly seems to weather on the iutside. Woody

As pretty as those are, I would go back, if they are a little pity they can always be filled with a hit of glue, pretty vibrant colors.

I would definitly get more. It look like some kind of Onyx to me ( what do I know) so you might need some Opticon but it is really pretty stuff.

Just based on the color alone, I would collect as much as I could.
