the front: the back: you guys came up with some Doozies on this one, had to look up a few to verify spelling and meanings. Hermy, Arakis is a company name, Arrakis is the desert planet. Tweet, Imhotep is the right spelling for the egyptian dude, and Toad, i was thinking the version of Volkswagon until i looked up the word as you spelled it...and Walrus, i desperately wanted to call it Morrow Wind until i looked it up.... anyway, very hard choices to make and all good names. the winner now rests with y'all, i'll call the contest in a week, next Wednesday at 7pm. thanks for all your participation, KD

The best name, for that profound stone, is really the vision that came long ago from sharing a piece of that cactus...properly prepared, with ceremony, a good barf, and then the ringing in the ears... There is something about some of the jaspers that Sands had that just spoke. Krazy brought out the best in that one. It is beautiful. Makes me remember....... Not sure what, but, I hope to.

Arrakis, since my name "Moutains of Mars " was rejected...this is my next best choice.

"You ask me if I've known love, and what it's like to sing songs in the rain. Well I've seen love come, I've seen it shot down, I've seen it die in vain. Shot down, in a Blaze Of Glory."
I love to sing this song at karaoke when there's a rocking kind of crowd.

ps But I still think it looks like Imhotep's Fury!

arrr, Hermy, anytime.
oh, PDwight, please don't feel rejected...Mountains of Mars was a great name. i agonized over the selections. it isn't easy to pick from almost 35 great names to get to eight.
but here is a tip for naming any cabs i have to offer in the future, i love these stones, i work them with love. i don't care what you SEE in the stone, i want you to name them, like a work of art, i know, pompous of me, but that is how i see them.
they are precious to me,
KD

KD, with my work, I am the same way. I slave on a piece, and when someone gets that look in their eyes, I feel like it was all worth while. I had a customer who ordered a custom piece, get it, pay for it, put it on, and ask what they could get for it at a pawn shop down the road. I will never make another piece for him. No matter how much he wants to pay. It is obvious in your work how much you love what you do. It shows in your silver work also. It is like a child. Watching it grow makes a person feel alive.

WOW KD I thought What you said- about the naming of the stone- was so profound- I always think about what the stone impresses upon me- When I'm working a stone- it is a part of me (like a child- yes) I often find myself rubbing the stone across my lower lip (kinda strange I know) And I often close my eyes when I first pick it up to start working it- I just let my mind go blank (not to hard of a task) then just listen- the sound of the grinder- the music- the drip and splash of the water- The singing of the stone- It is a very Spiritual thing- I'm working on a project right now- for a friend- that has me so into the stone- the shape is coming out so easily- I love working on it cause that creative energy just pumps me for any other stone worked after it! It is one of the reasons I'm having trouble parting with any endcuts- I just gotta grind em- I'm finding it more difficult to toss anything into the tumbler- Don't get me wrong- I love tumbling- But grinding is so personal and one on one!

Man if I had a grinder at home you'd have to feed me intraveinously & drug me to sleep! My kids would get taken away from me and my husband would always be playing cards or slots!

KD-
I never cleaned off a spot on the mantle for the cab. There are too many good names out there. I thought Sirroco was a dead lock to win. In fact, I wasn't even goint to participate because I was so sure that was the winner. If I recall correctly, the last contest Sands had, there were only 33 votes.
Great contest, good names, good fun.
Thanks KD, you're awesome.
