My mother-in-law requested more "purple rocks" so I'd like to tumble another batch of amethyst. I know of several sources, but I also know that the quality of amethyst rough is quite variable. Anyone care to recommend a source for good tumbling material? Thanks!

If you want amethyst crystals, The rock shed (therockshed.com)just got some nice stuff in at a good price for them at $5.00 lb. Bergs rock shop (bergsrockshop.com) has Chevron banded Amethyst for $4.65 lb. Fran

Our own Desertdweller has banded amethyst for $3.50 and you might get a great deal on a flat rate box. By the way, the site name won't Google. Just put it in the the search window and go for it. SHe has lots of other neat stuff, too and sells small flat rte boxes for $25.00 through the board. Mark H.

Mark, I am glad you put the location down for desertdweller. I was not able to find that one. Fran

Ejs, I just ordered some purple amethyst from The Rock Shed when I ordered more grit last week. It arrived yesterday and it's absolutely gorgeous, even to my very inexperienced eye.

I ended up ordering 5 lbs. from The Rock Shed. I'll let you know how it turns out - by next Christmas!

Christmas??? But that's like 11 months away ejs!! I think you should make the amethyst a priority tumble.

While I love my mother-in-law and look forward to making her happy, I ran through a big batch of amethyst for her that finished in Dec. So I'm a bit burned out on it! I don't need it until next Xmas, so it will probably sit around until the late summer...

I'm willing to wait. Did you get the purple amethyst at The Rock Shed? I think that's such a beautiful stone.
