OK...I've already been contacted about this...so here it is...this is the Delta Utah trip for 2009... The dates are as follows: Monday April 6th Through Saturday 11th[/size] This is where we will be each day (open for suggestion) : 1) Drum mountain agates/jaspers on Monday and Tuesday2) Topaz Mountain on Wednesday3) Dugway Geode beds on Thursday4) Open for the rest of the weekEveryone that went last year knows that this is one of the top rockhounding areas in the state of Utah. The agate from this region comes in all sorts of colors including Blue, Green, Moss, Brown, and stuff that looks like Oregon plume agate, there is also apache tears, jasper in different variaties. The area is several thousand acres big and there is a lot of ground to discover the next big agate/gem mine). I think there were a lot of areas we wanted to go to last year...we are exploring these this year. I'm trying to get a feel for those that would be interested. I'm thinking if there is good response I can locate a good area where everyone can camp out , and maybe even try to get good rates in the local hotels in Delta which is about 40 miles from the area. Please Let me know who is interested. The best way to get there is to get to Nephi Utah, and then hit highway 128 until you get to the intersection of highway 174. From there is about 40 miles to where the action is. Here is an official map of the area

Pretty unlikely that I'll be able to get out the whole week, but I might try to come out for the last couple of days. Really sorry I missed the trip last year...

I think the wife and I can make it. Were just over the hill from there. Only a hour drive.
I think we need to exercise caution though. I hear this is a prime are for sighting Pebble Pickers.
Are you thinking of taking in the Geode Beds, or maybe Drum Mountain area. The state BLM Geologist for the southern district told me they have a location where you can get some Tigers Eye someplace on Drum Mountain, but he could not give me exact location.

I'm interested, but not sure what days I'll be able to get out there. Would be great if you could set up a time and location to meet each morning for those of us that may only make out out there 1 or 2 days

I'll probably be in Utah then. I think I'll only be able to make it out for one day. Maybe I'll try for Wednesday and I can get some instruction on finding topaz from someone that knows what they're doing. Then I can stop at Drum Mountain on the way back.

Hey Ozzie, I'm glad to see you get this thing going again. You can count on Sharri and I to be there, we had such a blast last year. Looking forward to seeing you again.

Only a couple weeks out now.
I was hoping to bring the camper over and stay the week, but they have cut back on our hours. I can't make the entire week, but I hope to make a couple of days.
Where and how do we meet up.

Ozzy, Sharri and I are aiming at Wednesday, probably early afternoon. We'll try to camp in the same spot as last year so the dogs don't drive everybody crazy. For those that didn't make it last year, that's 1.5 miles east of the turnoff for Topaz Mt. 0n the opposite side of the highway. We'll be off the road a few hundred yards at the base of the hills there. Look for our travel trailer and a red Ford super duty. Hopefully on the weekend we can hook up with UtahRockHound for some of the honey onyx and thundereggs. I'm looking forward to it guys, I sure hope the weather cooperates.

If your going to make the Drum Mountain area during this outing, you better take your Metal Detecter. Doing some research on the area, I found this. This is the Drum Mountain Meteorite. Found at Drum Mountain in 1944. Made of solid Iron, it is Eighth heaviest in U.S. weighing in a 1,164 pounds (529 kg). It is on display at the Smithsonian. There has also been found 5 stone meteorites in Millard County. Of the 18 recorded, 6 are from Millard County, with 4 more from joining counties. Keep your eyes peeled, the last few years, Meteorites have been bringing high prices on the open market.

Ozzy, due to circumstances beyond our control, Sharri and I won't be able to make it to Delta this time. It's very disappointing as we had so much fun last year. We hope everyone that does make it has a great time and great luck on the hunt. My apologies Ozzy, I was really looking forward to this trip.

Hey Ozzy, no catastrophies or anything like that! Just way too much on my plate right now to get out of town. We'll be on the road in about 2 weeks, just had to take care of stuff here first. ;D

Hubby and I are planning a trip to the geode beds in June. We're taking a week vacation for out 30th anniversary. Can you give us driving directions off of 15 once we get into Salt Lake? Also, where abouts are the agates in relation to the geode beds?? I'm just hoping that it's not too hot in June.

Hey Dot...best way I have found is to hit I-15 to Santaquin, follow highway 6 until you get to Vernon, and then hit the pony express...Geobeds are about 50 miles from Vernon on Pony express. From Geobeds to Topaz and Agate hill about another 45 miles on the same pony express trail heading towards Fish Springs.
Good luck, if you want to give me a call, I can give you better directions.
