what we have always called "sugar agates" and snow quartz, most of which took a good shine, though the photo hardly shows it

I think these are Columbia basalt and maybe sandstone or something similar. The basalt ranges from muddy purple or green greys through the nice jet black of the far right rock... and straight off the beach some have the nicest satin smooth finish that make perfect worry rocks

the green ones... there are a couple of different kinds of rock here I think... the largest one on the left seems like serpentine, the two in the middle some kind of jasper or something that reminds me of low grade turqouise in color sometimes, and the far right one looks like olivine in quartz or something like that. If anyone has a better idea, please let me know.

all these rocks were from the beaches out on the Washington Coast, mostly likely from Westport, our favorite agate hunting beach. We jsut got back, and i went a little overboard bringing back rocks

That some beach (pardon my French) - what a variety. Nice job on the rocks, greenmann.

Those are some really beautiful beach rocks! It's so much fun finding them and collecting them. You have got so many rocks in different colors and patterns.

Great variety, colour, and pattern there, Green.
Did you know that you can post mulitple pictures in one message so that you don't have to keep replying to your post and adding one pic at a time? Just click that "insert image" icon (in the set of icons to the right of "Add Tags" when you are writing your message) as many times as the number of pics you have, then copy and paste them from Photobucket or wherever, one picture into each image link.

Thanks everyone! This was my first batch... most really need to go in for another polish... but the tumbler is busy on the next batch, so they will have to wait. I'm happy with the results so far anyway The rocks above were done with the grit kit that came with the tumbler, following more or less the recipe in the faq here on this site; 6 days in course (many had minor pits and cracks, and this helped... I'll try and post later the picks of the rocks I got this last weekend out there so you can compare), one week each in 200, 400, and Tripoli (which is what came with it). I didn't like the polish the Tripoli gave it, so I used some Cerium Oxide for an additional week. Needs more polish, only the little ones got really well tumbled in this batch, but many of them really show that they are ready to shine! Next I'll have to try some of the flatter ones as cabs for wire wrapping
