Hi, everyone!
I had seen at so many of you such great ideas for an easier groove cutting, so I decided to make this step forward. I imagined a device that I attached to my cabbing machine to ease my groove cuttings.
The device consists in the unpainted metallic pieces in the pic below. As you see there, it allows adjustments on two directions (red arrows) and it also have a stopper (a thin sheet welded on the device, to limit the depth of the grooves):
Here's a picture taken while grooving. When I cut this groove by hand I could hardly breathe while doing it, not speaking about takin' pics. It's a big step forward, much easier to do the groove and it's much straighter. Call me romantic, but I think I'll miss the concentration and the emotions of the hand grooving though
After some calibrations, here are the first two grooves I made:
The cab in the left is a Burro Creek from a slab from Tony-Catmandewe. I made it a while ago (classic cab) and gave it to my very skillful but even more lazy jeweler to make a pendant for Ioana (she was the one who spotted the pattern and drew that cab). After two months of doing nothing but telling me "next week it's ready", I withdrew the cab from the jeweler. Now I thought: "hey, this grooving device could allow me to groove on slightly oblique surfaces!" And so it was I can't wait to wrap this one for Ioana, I know I'll make her day with it. She was so disappointed when I brought the cab back home!
Here's another pic of the two cabs. The other one is a pet wood cab made entirely by Karen - Karenfh. I think she made it using her vibe tumbler. Congrats Karen, you should make more of these and share them with us, you are too modest
Special thanks for inspiring me to:
Tom Connrock,
Harry - Sparkles,
Amber - Bejewelme and
Tony - Tonyterner.
I told you folks that my turn to step on your shoulders will come and look, it's here
Thank you all for looking,
Adrian
