I've never heard of these. Are they really diamonds, or crystals like Hot Springs or Herkimer?

I've never heard of these. Are they really diamonds, or crystals like Hot Springs or Herkimer? They are six sided mineral's about the size of your thumbnail, once you start digging for them you can't stop.......

Did some research from the info fossil sent me. Sounds like they are double terminated smokey quartz if the info I found is correct. Thanks for the site fossil.

There are such tyhings as black diamonds- they're a hot item now. I understand they really are diamonds that previously were unmartketable. You can see them on AMazon.

Many of those polish up to looking almost black in certain lights. Whatever you have there, it sounds like a wonderful place to visit and have a great time finding great "stones"!! And they sound like they are a lot easier to find than the garnets buried in the mountains of NC! LB

Those quite seriously look like hanksite crystals. How hard are they? The black ones I find are very much smaller than your pieces-your's are huge compared to the ones in Montana.....Like I said they are usually about the size of a mans thumbnail...

They are pretty hard as they are quartz crystals. I remember digging them when I was 10 or 11. If memory serves they were in a crystalline dolomite or feldspar matrix? Bob
