Here are some very basic rules:
- Excited and enthusiastic Rocking Sudoku!!! Contest Participants will send all answers via a PM to me. There will be no posting of hints, clues, or answers on the open Forum.
You are each in this to WIN!!!! On your ownsomes!!! - No peeking at each other’s answers – unless you decide that two heads are better than one and you promise to share the Prize.
I want each of you to have the opportunityto sufferto solve the puzzles on your own! - All members of RTH are invited to solve the puzzles regardless of your length of RTH membership (or how many bad names you call me.)
- Contestants are invited and encouraged to work on solving each of the six sections of this contest until the official close of the contest—11:59 AM Eastern Time on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. NOTE: There will be bonuses for solving the first five puzzles within specific time frames; HOWEVER, there is no requirement that any of the six puzzles must be solved earlier than the final submission date.
Here are the basic details of the contest:
- There are six distinct puzzles to solve in this deliciously delightful Rocking Sudoku!!! Contest . In progressive order of how easily the puzzles will be to solve (Remember now…this Contest is as easy as A – B – C!!!!) the puzzle categories are titled The Fossil Category, The Mineral Category, The Rock Category, The Gemstone Category, The “Am I Fossil, Mineral, Rock, or Gemstone?” Category, and The “These Are A Few Of My Favorite Stones” Category.
(Some of you just might be thinking about now: “How WONDERFUL!!! Even though she has been feeling poorly, Lady B has designed another deliciously delightful Contest to devilishly dazzle us!!!”

It is almost diabolically phenomenal what I have been able to do while I have been convalescing!!! )
- Each of the first five puzzles will be based on a standard Sudoku grid of 81 cells and will require the placement of a mere 9 letters of the alphabet (Remember now…this Contest is as easy as A – B – C!!!!) in sets of nine cell clusters. (Puzzle Number 6 will be a bit more challenging – but by then your minds will be craving just that little extra adrenaline-pumping excitement, I’m sure!)
- In each of the Puzzle Threads I will post specific details for the respective puzzles to make it that much easier to solve the puzzles.
- This is going to be such an EASY Contest for all Contest Participants (Remember now…this Contest is as easy as A – B – C!!!!). There will be the potential for many Successful Sudoku Solvers!!! ;D Therefore, there will not be any race to be the first to submit the correct answers. Instead, Contest Participants will accrue points as they solve the various puzzles. Should there be tied scores among Successful Sudoku Solvers by the end of the Contest, I will resort to my infamous Bingo Tumbler to determine the Grand Prize Winner!!!
- The Grand Prize is a $20.00 Gift Certificate that I have purchased from My Blue Rocks Rock Shop ( , RTH’s very own Desertdweller’s fabulous online rock shop. The Grand Prize Winner will be announced no later than 11:59 AM Eastern Time on Wednesday, February 18, 2009.

Point Values per Puzzle
The highest score a Participant can achieve in this Contest is 60 Points. The List that follows shows how the points are distributed:
- Rocking Sudoku!!! – The Test Grid – a One-Star Puzzle: 1 Possible Point. 1 Possible Extra Credit.
- Rocking Sudoku!!! – The Fossil Category – a One-Star Puzzle: 2 Possible Points. 2 Possible Extra Credits.
- Rocking Sudoku!!! – The Mineral Category: – a Two-Star Puzzle: 4 Possible Points. 4 Possible Extra Credits.
- Rocking Sudoku!!! – The Rock Category – a Three-Star Puzzle: 6 Possible Points. 6 Possible Extra Credits.
- Rocking Sudoku!!! – The Gemstone Category – a Four-Star Puzzle: 8 Possible Points. 9 Possible Extra Credits.
- Rocking Sudoku!!! – The “Am I Fossil, Mineral, Rock, or Gemstone?” Category – a Five-Star Puzzle: 10 Possible Points. 15 Possible Extra Credits.
- Rocking Sudoku!!! – The “These Are A Few Of My Favorite Stones” Category – a Far-Distant-Galaxy-Star Challenger Puzzle: 20 Possible Points. 8 Possible Extra Credits.
- Please Note: Extra Credits will be used to “buy” hints for the Letters needed to solve the Far-Distant-Galaxy-Star Challenger Puzzle. For every 5 Extra Credits a Participant has remaining at the close of this deliciously delightful adventure, 1 Conversion Point will be added to that Participant’s total Point score.
- Final Breakdown of Possible Points and Possible Extra Credits: There are 51 Possible Points for correctly solving the puzzles; 45 Possible Extra Credits; and the potential for an additional 9 Conversion Points in the final tally. Summed up: 60 Possible Points.
