I'm not much of a fossil guy but living in Texas is making me more so all the time. Here are a few of my favorites I've self collected. Got this one last week here on the ranch, I'd found a worn one previously but this one came right from the limestone and is more complete. A gastropod almost five inches long: Got this plate of crinoid graveyard from the C. B. Lambert Ranch, San Saba, Texas: And finally, of course my Meg alongside a Mako shark tooth. Both from Sharktooth Hill near Bakersfield, Calif.

Those crinoids look like like a box with nuts'n bolts. Nice fossils, all of them.

The crinoid plate is killer Mel! Did you have to clean it much or was it that nice when found?

Curt: The rain etches the fossils from the limestone and the plate was just pried from the surface and brushed off. I had several of them but donated all but this one to my gem club for their silent auction....Mel

These are really cool. I love the Crinoid Plate. The ones that are perfectly round with the "flower" in the center reminds me of sand dollars.

sitnwrap: You have a good eye because crinoids are close relatives of sand dollars, sea urchins and starfish ( all echinoderms) . Crinoids are sort of a starfish looking creature often attached to the sea floor by a stem-like column and the broken columns and segments are what you see on this plate. Most have that five pointed theme in their body construction.....Mel

They also must be related to lock washers, thats what it reminds me of. How big is that plate Mel?

Hey Jamie *S*; The plate is about 6" across. These must've been really large crinoids cause the columns are pretty large....Mel

Very cool all. I can't decide if I like the crinoid plate or the Meg tooth the best.

Now that is some amazing finds Mel. I think I am partial to the crinoid plate. It has so much to study in the picture. Fran
