I was moving some things around yesterday and I dropped my computer tower (it fell about 3 1/2 feet and hit the ground HARD). It's now on the brink of death. Actually, it's been on its last legs for a year or so - it's an 8 year old Gateway, so if I disappear for a while, you'll know why. I lost all color after the plunge. Everything on my screen is now various shades of black and yellow. Yuck. Even y'alls rocks look sickening. S

oh thats too bad, i find it odd that dropping the tower would affect the color. did you drop the monitor too? or maybe it just damaged the onboard video, because i'm doubting that an 8 year old gateway would have its own vga card. hmm.. well hope you figure it out, i'd hate to be without a computer

Computers can be amazingly resilient. Open the tower and make sure that all the boards are well seated and tight in the slots. A drop like that could have shoot something loose but shouldn't have broken anything.

Ohhhh I know that feeling. I once fell down the stairs while carrying the laptop and we parted company about half way down - laptops don't bounce well at all (neither did I), but lucky we had taken out extended warranty which covered accidental damage. Hubby was not impressed and checked the laptop before he checked me

My dad had his laptop stolen at the airport- He screamed at the guy and he tossed it aside (yea they busted his arse!) well he was a bit shaken up but when he got home he checked it out and the screen was cracked- well he took it in to be repaired- the $1500 laptop needed a screen that cost $900!!!!!!! The company he worked for said- FIX IT! and the insurance company paid for it all- the would be thief got a $250 fine and 2 days in lock up- Hmmmm wonder if he worked for the computer repair company? Sucks about you tower Susan- but it's time for a new computer anyway- (gotta keep the economy going!)

It may have knocked loose the video card, if it isn't one that's built into the motherboard. Snapping it back into place may fix your problem. May be worth taking a look at.

Hey Susan, I just fried the hard drive on my laptop last week. Just put a new one in over the weekend and reloaded all my software. Talk about a pain in the ass! It's amazing how many little things that I forgot to backup.

yeh, open it up, vacuum out the dust (8 years old it's probably pretty crusty), reseat whatever cards you can, maybe even take a soft eraser to the edge fingers. button it back up, dance around it three times singing the Chipmunk WitchDoctor song, plug it back in and see what happens.
then go out and do yourself a favor and buy a new one. the price has come way down on some of the newer technology and there are deals out there. and there are payment plans, too.
i'm like JKowalski, i couldnt imagine being WITHOUT a computer (and internet access) at this point. i have a back up for this machine, it's old but it still runs in a pinch.
so go out there and be a good consumer buy new and fix your old one for back up if you can.
DON'T DISAPPEAR!!! you know how we are!
