These are some slabs I sanded and polished on my expando drum tonight. They are pieces I felt would look better polished whole instead of cutting into cabs. Horse Canyon Agate: Very large chunk here Cathedral Agate: One of my favorites.. Carey Plume Stinkingwater Plume Morrisonite Texas Plume Blue Mountain Picture Jasper chunk Opal Butte Opal in matrix I'll be polihing several more this weekend..

Man! Fantastic bunch O slabs. The Horse Canyon is very nice and kind of an unusual pattern for green moss from that site. Was so sorry to see that place closed because I swear, almost any color and pattern you can imagine came out of that area......Mel

OMG, those are beautiful! The Cathedral is breathtaking! Heck, they all are, but that's my favorite, followed by the Morrisonite, Blue Mt. Picture Jasper and the Opal Butte.
All those colors are just YUMMY! I think that's me drooling.

All very cool. Was that opal butte difficult to polish? Any undercutting on the opal vs. matrix areas?

All very cool. Was that opal butte difficult to polish? Any undercutting on the opal vs. matrix areas? The opal butte did present some trouble. The boundaries between the opal and matrix were fragile and occasionally sent small particles onto the belts. These didn't harm the matrix, but kept leaving micro-scratches on the opal. These are only apparent at shallow angles and bright light. I've put it back in the shop to seal with Opticon and repolish, probably starting at 1200 grit. I'm also going to seal the two fractures in the Texas Plume and repolish.
