I've been following many threads with great interest over the past few days. Recently, the jonesman (Feb 4/09) posted a thread on what his next purchase should be.
I was greatly intrigued by one response for a Home Depot Workforce 7.5" diamond tile saw for only $88. Before I rush out and possibly be disappointed, can anyone tell me what the limitations of this saw would be?
Will I be able to cut rock, and if so, up to what thickness? Will I be able to cut hard rock, all those beautiful jaspers and agates?
Thanks to all. I'm learning fast.

I own that very saw and I have cut many hard stones with it. The saw comes with a diamond blade, so it will cut just about anything. While you won't be able to slab 12 inch rocks, you will be able to cut stones that are about 3-5 inches thick (as best that I recall). A few tricks with turning the stones and turning over the rocks will allow much thicker pieces to be cut. Want to cut from a slab? No problem.
In general, it is a real nice way to get a trim saw without spending a huge amount of money.
I hope this helps.

in my opinion :: as a newbe . it is a great investment ,esp for under 100.00. it has been great for me to cut into yumbler size chunks . it is also a great confidence builder . i then moved on to cutting tri-angle free form cabs . and am starting to cut my own small slabs . there are a lot of WF users on this board .---------good luck!!!--------------paul

Over 100 WF saws have been purchased by RTH members, and I've never heard of anyone having buyer's remourse. It's a great little saw. I don't know about cutting 5" rocks on it, I certainly haven't been able to do that, but 3 - 3 1/2" is do-able, provided that you turn the rock slowly and carefully. I prefer to stay with smaller slabs though, due to the time and difficulty of trying to cut slabs that big without breaking them.
DO rush out and buy one, you WON'T be disappointed.
