My youngest son (5, almost 6) starting going on walks with me this summer and collecting chunks of "quartz" that he found. He was obsessed with it for several weeks and collected a large bag. About a month ago we started tumbling it. He got a Lortone 3# of his own (labeled with his name, natch) and started tumbling his collected quartz and quartzite. Like his Dad, he prefers his rocks rounded and smooth, so we did 7 rounds of coarse and then one round of medium. We finished the medium this weekend and Forest checked his rocks. Do you think he liked that he saw? ;D

Maybe I should take pointers from your son.
The batch looks great and your boy looks as happy as all get out.

Wow! What a beautiful smile and the quartz looks great too! Looks like you may need a lot of coushioning with this load though. Fran

Don't worry, Fran, he added pellets to the pre-polish. I expect it will look great at the end and he'll be even happier!
His birthday is coming in April, and I've purchased a bunch of geodes for him to split, and I'll get some of his favorite tumbling rough that he circled in a catalog.

That smile must have made your day.
My son is two and I have taken him rock hunting a few times. He collects leaverites (copies dad putting rock in a bucket). I am looking forward to doing projects like this with him. The picture of your son just reinforced that desire.
