Hello Again, I did a 5 day check on the rocks in my 3lb Thumbler during the pre-polish phase. I got to admit, when I took out a few and dried them off, they looked the same as when I put them in. No dull shine or any gloss at all. I even tried to damp rub a little final polish powder on them and got nothing. Should I be concerned? I'm gonna wait the full seven days and see what happens. Any suggestions? Thanks! Lou in NJ

I read somewhere (I forget where, and if it's here I apologize) that you take a rock out of PP and dry it off, then rub it on your pants. If it shines up a little where you rubbed it, it's ready to polish.

Hi Rockin50,
Dont worry its a bit soon to get a polish I find try this method
I generally do a pre polish wash and burnish for 24 or 48 hours in Borax and ivory You should then see a dull shine on them ,
(this Method I find , 1 - cleans the stones . 2 - rubs the stones together and smooths them , 3 - washes the odd bit of grit out of a crack and keeps it mobile so it is washed away )
Then polish 2 weeks Rotary ( or 24 Hours Vibe = Lot"O")
Now if you dont get a shine --- Or preferably before you try See if there are any sharp corners on the rocks ANY chiped or broken
These will create havock and a dull finish take them ALL out before you start any polishing or even better still out from the 2 stage
Even if its your best piece that has just a little chip off the smallest corner !! Get it out
Im sure you will be pleased at the results you get following this method,

I agree with Jack. You may not see that shine until it is really clean and you buff it off with a cloth. Then move them forward to polish. Fran

You guys (and gals) are so nice, Thanks for the information. Jack thanks again for all the information. I am so happy I found this forum. I always loved turning these rocks into gems. Such a nice place to talk with others who share the same interests! Lou

Rockin: I cannot tell by eye when my rocks are "done" with the pre-polish. If you take a small magnifier, like a jeweler's loupe, and view the rocks before and after pre-polish, you should notice that the scratches on the surface get smaller. But generally I don't see any real results until after polish - which is to say that I have to take it on faith that the pre-polish is doing something until after the final results at the end of polish. Good luck!
