Hi everyone i have noticed that almost everyone here has no positive filtration system for their waste Grit / Polish / Borax slurry.
You could make your own filter for a few bucks.
Items required:
One 24 inch high by 12 or 24 inch wide plant pot or other container with drainage holes.
Dirt, earth or sand.
Activated carbon, crushed charcoal or Anthracite coal dust.
Some rocks or pebbles.
Optional if water reclamation is required
A piece of rag (duster).
A piece of hose pipe.
A container for the filtered water.
A Rack or stand, bricks, metal or wooden, it needs to be strong enough to hold the slurry filter container.
Assembly: Optional if water reclamation is required.
Thread the rag through the drainage holes & tie leaving about 2 - 3 inches dangling below, ram the rag in to a piece of hose pipe tightly, connect the other end of the hose pipe to your container for the filtered water.
Place your water container below the rack with the slurry filter above.
Assembly:
0: If drainage holes are larger than rocks place a piece polythene sheeting poke holes in it 1st or use a piece of rag, add 0.5 inches of dirt.
1: Fill about 2 inches high with rocks or pebbles.
2: Fill about 2 inches high with dirt.
3: Fill about 2 inches high with activated carbon.
4: Fill about 2 inches high with dirt.
5: Fill about 2 inches high with activated carbon.
6: Fill about 2 inches high with dirt.
7: Fill about 2 inches high with rocks or pebbles.
8: Fill about 4 inches high with dirt.
All done.
You should have about 6 inches left in the container this is for your grit slurry & it will accumulate over time & will need to be removed & disposed as you see fit, in dustbin or as a filler for pot holes!
I built mine about 38 years ago & used Anthracite coal dust as the filter medium!
