Ruby Rock - 9 on the Mohs Amethyst - 7 on the Mohs Citrine - 7 on the Mohs
I am putting together a barrel of Amethyst and Citrine for tumbling, would putting in some Ruby Rock as well assist the grinding action of stones and grit, or would the RR cause the grit to wear down faster. Both RR and SC are both supposed to be 9's.
I'm asking it as a stupid question because I think it would assist the grind but have never tried it before. I know some are going to just say 'go for it', but I'd also like your opinions and/or experiances.
Many thanks john

I've tumbled ruby rough in the coarse stage of tumbles before to help wear down the other rough. It didn't significantly reduce the grit, but it did cut down on the number of weeks my other rough spent in coarse.

Just watch that it's not too rough on the quartz, Rogue. Quartz can be tricky. Use cushion. As soon as you see some shattering, or blush, pull the plug.
